Chapter 57
About forty-five minutes later, Melissa was entertaining them all. She was telling a story that she was making up as she went along but she was telling it in such a convincing manner that she had them all engrossed in it.
Christin walked back into the room to find the guys playing and laughing with Melissa. As she watched them, she realized what great fathers they were going to be when they had children of their own. A few tears managed to slip down her cheek as she watched them.
Amanda was the only one to notice this. She grabbed Christin by the hand and dragged her into the bathroom before anyone else had a chance to notice and slam the door shut. Giving her a hug, she asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. It just hit me what great parents they’d make but can’t because of their status in life and the fame they have achieved.” Christin continued to cry. “Plus, I’m just a little emotional today, Manda.”
“I understand that more than you think and you ain’t gotta tell me bouts being emotional. You have been like a damn roller coaster everyday. A bitch one moment, sweet the next, then a total crybaby.” Amanda joked.
“Shut up!” Christin laughed.
“See now that is what everyone here wants to see. You happy and smiling. OR you can do the total smartass bitch everyone has grown to love.” Amanda smiled as she tried to cheer up her friend. Christin had been so out of control with her emotions lately it wasn’t surprising that she was standing there in front of her.
Christin smiled back at Amanda’s attempt to lighten up the situation. “Alright I’ll remember that.” She wiped her eyes.
“Good! Now get yourself presentable and I will go with you to bring Melissa back.”
Christin washed her face even better and went into the main room, where the guys were playing hide and seek with Melissa. She had found Nick, Howie, and Kevin. Now she was looking for AJ in the closet.
“AJ, where are you? Come out come out wherever you are.” She said in her childlike voice. She turned and saw Christin standing there. “Christin, we’re playin’ hides and seek. Help me found AJ? Phu-lease???”
“Since you said please, Okay.” Christin went over to the closet and looked in turning the light on. “Do you see him in there?”
“Noooo.”
“Okay well let’s check under the beds.” Christin could have easily told Melissa where AJ was but decided to indulge the munchkin. Melissa ran over the bed and look under it while Christin did the same to the other one. “He’s not under here. How about over there?”
“No. Maybe he is in the bathroom. My sister always hides in there.” Melissa started walking towards the restroom.
“Lissa, come here quick.” Melissa ran over to Christin and Christin whispered where AJ was in Melissa’s ear. Then she whispered what they were going to do. Christin lifted Melissa over the bed, because AJ was covered up, and dropped her on her butt, on AJ. AJ groaned and Melissa began to tickle him. The rest of the guys started laughing. Christin, at that point, was helping Melissa’s attack against AJ. AJ was laughing so hard that he was on the verge of crying.
“Stop. Stop it! I surrender.” When the attackers didn’t let up he added. “You better stop it or I am going to pee my pants.” AJ remarked while watching his mouth.
“YUCK!! Nobody wants that and besides, on my bed. I don’t think so.” Christin stopped. “Missy, girly, I think you better stop to cause you knows that is just YUCK! This being my bed and everything.” Christin continued to tease. Melissa also stopped her assault on AJ. Christin glanced at the clock. “Dang time flies when you are having fun. Mel it is already 3:30 and I think it is time for you to start saying goodbye.” She lifted Melissa off the bed.
“But I don’t wanna go. Mommy won’t care!” She began to cry loudly.
“Melissa, girly, don’t cry. Well probably see you again and don’t you wanna go and tell your mommy what you have been up too.”
Melissa shook her head no slowly, and her crying seemed to lessen a little.
“You don’t. Well, whom are you staying with other than your momma?”
“My…my sissy…and…her…her friend…Shelly.” She sobbed.
“Do they like the Backstreet Boys?” Christin shifted Melissa’s weight on her hip.
Melissa was still sobbing but her tears had stopped, which was a good sign. She shook her head yes this time.
“Well why don’t you ask the guys for their autograph? I’m sure they wouldn’t mind and then you could go to your sister and her friend, Shelly, and show them. You don’t mind do you guys?” Christin turned to face the guys who were all watching the scene in front of them. It was interesting to see this woman they all know as a smart ass, spicy, but lovable business woman, interact with this child of six. Christin was being so gentle and understanding.
“No, not at all.” Kevin pulled a hotel tablet at of the desk he was leaning against. He quickly jotted down a little note and his signature. ‘To Melissa, you’re the sweetest fan and a nice girl!! Love ya…Kevin Richardson.’ Then passed it on to the next person.
‘Melissa, Lissa, Mel, Missy, it was fun playing with ya. Keep that imagination and stay sweet and fun. – Howie D.’ Then is was passes around again.
‘To my number one fan Missy. You’re a cool girl. Stay kewl and da bomb. Nick Carter.’
At that very moment there was a knock on the door and Amanda opened it. “Brian just in time to sign,” Amanda took the tablet out of Nick’s hand, “this.” And place it in Brian’s hands.
Brian glanced down at it and wondered who Melissa was. He voiced his question to. “Who is Melissa?” Brian walked farther into the room. “Cute kid. Who’s is it?” He walked over to Melissa and introduced himself. “Brian’s the name. What they call you?”
“Melissa.”
“Oh you’re Melissa.”
Brian looked down at the tablet again and read what was written then added his own little comment. ‘Melissa, nice meeting you. Stay sweet and cute. Brian Littrel.’ Then handed it to the on to the only person who had yet to sign it.
AJ took it the tablet and pen and wrote ‘To a beautiful girl, Melissa, Stay kewl and your great self. Love ya girl – AJ McLean.’“Here you go Melissa.” He held to tablet over to her and she took it.
Melissa looked down at it with curiosity. It was obvious she couldn’t read it. “What’s it say?” She looked up at Christin.
“How ’bout I read it to you with Amanda as we go down to your room to see your momma?” Christin reasoned with her. She sat Melissa down on the ground and squatted down to be eye level with her. “How does that sound?”
“Okay I guess.” Melissa said precariously.
“Well then say bye and let’s go.” Christin replied sweetly.
“Okay.” Melissa walked to each of the guys and gave them a hug and the guys returned her hug full heartily. It was really great having Melissa around for a while because it gave them back a little bit a normalcy to their lives, as odd as that sounds.
Christin and Amanda walked Melissa back to her room and read to her what the autographs said. When they reached her room, they knocked. A teenage girl around 15 answered the door. “Who are you and what are you doing with my sister? Where is my mom? Has anything happened?” She asked rather quickly and worriedly.
“No worry sissy. This is Christin. Momma said I could go with her. She took me to meet…” Melissa began to say but was quickly interrupted by Christin.
“Um…I am supposing you are Melissa’s sister here and your mother, Harmony Wieser, asked me to have her back by 3:45 to this room. Your sister had a wonderful time, I think and hope, and entertained us all very well and was a joy to be around. Thank your mother for letting her come down.” Christin and Amanda watched Melissa and her sister walk into their hotel room and close the door.
Inside the room, there was screams of excitement and envy where heard outside in the halls and Christin and Amanda took a walk around the hotel and replayed the current events between the two.
