Chapter 60
Christin broke eye contact with Zak to look up. Looking up she saw Nick. “Nick?! What are you doing here? I thought curfew was set for nine o’clock tonight. Since you all have to get up early and every thing.”
“Oh it is.” Nick smiled a smile that only he could manage.
“Then why are you down here and not up there? You only have a few minutes till nine and I would hate for you to get into trouble and have to be under house arrest.”
“I was hungry. I saw you and thought I should say hello. What kind of person would I be if I didn’t stop and let you know that I saw you and say hello?” Nick asked coyly.
“Maybe, Nick, you would be a normal person.” She smiled falsely at him, silently letting him know that he wasn’t welcome there and to leave.
Nick noticed this silent message from her but paid no heed to it. “So Christin and whoever you may be, hello.” He semi waved with his hand.
“I’m Zak.” Zak stood and held out his hand towards Nick.
Nick shook his hand. “Oh. I am sorry. I just realized I am interrupting. Let me go. Nice meeting you, Zak. By the way, my name is Nick.” He let go of Zak’s hand. “Bye Christin.” And with that he turned and to walk away.
“Bye Nick. I am so glad you decided to interrupt and since I know you are going to interrupt again, can we just get this all over in one time? So just ask whatever I know is killing your soul to ask.”
Nick turned back around. “Well now that you bring it up, there are a few questions I wanna ask. How long have you know each other?”
“Well, Dad, I met Zak today after Brian, your bestest friend, tried to kill us with fruit. Seeing how it’s my responsibility for you guys, still wondering how I managed that, it’s only fair that I went out to dinner with Zak. Anymore stupid questions.” She asked smartassy.
“Yeah of course I have more questions. You know Kevin would kill me if I didn’t ask these questions. Besides that, wasn’t it you who told me to become more responsible. And oh yea, lose the attitude, it’s so not you.”
“Get on with it.” Christin remarked.
“Fine. Zak, how old is you? Where do you live? And what do you do for a living?”
“Ok in that order, twenty seven, San Francisco, and I’m in college. First year residency. Do I know you? You look really familiar like I have seen or met you somewhere before.” Zak was looking closely at Nick trying to figure out where he had seen that face.
“Naw. We ain’t ever met that I know of. I just have one of those faces that look familiar to everyone. Christin, you know where Kevin is? I can’t find him no where and well since you just mentioned it was almost time for lock down I thought I would pass that little bit of info on to him.” Nick smiled falsely.
“Go look in my room or better yet, try his cell. Buh bye Nick.” Christin turned to Zak wishing Nick would just leave him alone. She did not want all this information getting back to AJ, which with Nick around, it would.
Nick walked away out of the restaurant into the lobby. It was pretty late for fans, so he didn’t have to worry about that. “We’ve got a problem bro.” Brian fell in place beside him.
“How so??”
“They seem pretty tight in there. I mean I could tell all Christin wanna me to do was get the hell outta there so they could be alone.”
“Well, did you ask all the questions you were supposed to ask?”
“Yeah. He’s got a better shot than AJ.” Nick regrettably said.
“What are the answers though? Then I’ll tell you who has the best shot.”
“He’s 27, lives in San Francisco and is a med-student in his first year residency. He’s older, closer, and is a soon to be doctor. AJ’s only a year older. Christin said she dates guys older than her. AJ ain’t much. He lives in San Francisco. Same city. AJ lives on the other side of the country and is usually on the other side of the world. AJ might have a better career but Zak’s will last longer. I’m still gonna give AJ that one though. One out of three. Brian, I don’t like these odds.”
“I don’t either. Come on. We gotta talk to Kevin about this one.” He pulled Nick towards the elevator.
“He’s in Christin’s room.”
“Okay. Let’s find out what that’s about.”
“I’m sorry bout that. I have very rude friends. Very rude.” Christin apologized to Zak.
“It’s alright. Are you sure that I have never met him? He looks so familiar. But like he said he just might have a face that everyone thinks they have seen.”
“I ain’t gonna lie to you. Not after you just had to go through that little scene with Nick. Nick does have a face everyone seems to know because most people do know it. Him and Brian, the guy that threw fruit at us, look familiar cause they are celebrities. They are Backstreet Boys. Do you even know who that is? Cause when I first heard of them, I barely knew of them.” Christin smiled.
“I knew I had seen him before. My little sister loves them. So why are you with them? Are you their friend, sister, or family? Or dare I ask, one of their girlfriends?” Zak joked but was secretly serious.
“Well you have to promise not to tell a soul.” Christin looked at Zak who pretended to zip his lips. “Okay. Well you see I am their temporary manager until they find a new one. And the reason you can’t tell anyone is because it isn’t basic information. I have managed groups before and I don’t like the publicity that comes with it. So I am trying to stay out of the glam light this time I do it.”
“Oh that’s cool. You have a job that is awesome. Wanna trade?” Zak laughed. “So is Kevin part of this group?”
Christin caught on to what he was really asking but didn’t really want to. ‘Why’s Kevin in your room’ “Yea. Kevin is in the group and I know what you are wondering.” Zak looked at her confused. “Why is Kevin in my room? Well that’s simple. I brought my best friend with me on this trip and well she and him kinda have something going on and since she is sharing a room with me, that’s why he’s there. But you can’t tell anybody that either cause I promised not to anyone that.”
“So he’s not some secret kind of boyfriend or something?” Zak smirked.
“No. He is my other best friend. Amanda been my best friend since I was five so I just can’t go and replace her.”
“Oh.”
The waiter came back with their food. The rest of the meal went nicely without any interruptions.
“Why would Kevin be in Christin’s room?” Nick asked. As they knocked on the door to Christin’s room.
“Your guess is as good as mine.” Brian shrugged his shoulders.
A few minutes later, Amanda opened the door really flushed.
“Hey Amanda! Girl wassup?? Is Kevin in there?” Nick asked.
“Um…Kevin? Yea. Kevin.” She called out. “Nick and Brian are here. Come on in guys.” She opened the door and stepped aside to allow them in.
Brian and Nick walked in and saw Kevin reading a newspaper.
“Kev, put the paper down. We got a serious problem we need to talk to you about.” Brian said.
Kevin dropped the paper on the table next to him and jumped up and said, “What??? Just tell me no one’s hurt. Everyone’s okay. Right??”
“Yea. Everyone is fine. Nothing like that.”
“Well me and Brian was just downstairs right. And you know who we saw in the restaurant on a date.”
“Christin?” Amanda guessed.
“Yea. You knew about this? How could you let her go?”
“Well I don’t know the details of who, when, or where but I knew that she was going out with some one. Why are you so worried about it though? I think she deserves this date. She hasn’t been on one since she got back from Orlando.”
“Well if you think that then you obviously don’t know what went down in Orlando.” Nick replied.
“I don’t, huh? I know a lot more than anyone in this room knows. Kevin doesn’t even know the half of it. And I know you are thinking if it ain’t AJ, it shouldn’t be no one. It’s sweet but Christin doesn’t want it. She should not have to worry about dating someone around you. Okay. Christin can make up her own mind. She is a grown woman. And furthermore, I am not going to stop her from dating someone. Just give her some space and she will come around. And as far as this other guy goes, never gonna happen.” Amanda said matter of factly.
“This guy is a pretty good catch for Christin, if I do say so myself. I ain’t gay or anything, but he looks aight for a dude. Twenty-seven and studying to become a doctor. Plus he lives in San Francisco.” Nick explained.
“Yea. You should have seen him. I tried to kill him with fruit, so Christin says, and he wasn’t even mad about it.
“Then stop complaining. I am gonna tell you. She ain’t going to let it last. She’s not a girl you can tie down easily. Just be nice. Don’t push her. She doesn’t need that kind of stress in her cond…” Amanda stopped herself before she said something that would get her into trouble.
“Condition??? What condition?” Kevin asked carefully.
“Nothing. I didn’t say condition. I said…umm…” Amanda couldn’t figure out what to say. ‘You really are terrible liar.’ She thought to herself. “Ask Christin.”
“I am.” Kevin walked out of the room followed by Nick and Brian.
“Lord help us all when they find out.” Amanda thought to herself as she followed.
