Chapter 3: AJ's Party
"Hey you guys," AJ greeted Nick and Brian. "Where are your lovely ladies?" he asked.
"They’re in the house getting a drink," Nick said.
"Hey Bone!" Elizabeth exclaimed loudly.
"Hey big mouth," AJ replied. (I think the nickname is self-explanatory.)
"How are you?" Liz asked.
"Oh I'm good, and your beautiful self?" AJ replied. Liz giggled.
"I'm good, much better since I got to see Nick," she said. To illustrate her point, she walked up to Nick and kissed him on the nose. AJ rolled his eyes.
"Ahhh, that's my girl," Nick said.
Brian made a gagging noise and yelled, “PDA!” Nick looked up for a moment, stuck his tongue out, and turned back to Elizabeth.
"Hey AJ," Rachel said coming out the door. She smiled, set down her drink, and gave him a hug.
"Hey Rach, what’s up?" he asked when they let go.
"Oh nothing much, Brian and I have some news for you guys," she said mysteriously.
"What? Tell me!" AJ demanded. “I’ll tickle you if you don’t tell me,” he threatened.
“Ok, ok….we’re engaged!” she exclaimed happily.
AJ rolled his eyes. “Well, it’s about time,” he joked. Rachel smiled and playfully punched his shoulder. "But seriously, you've only been here 5 hours and you guys already managed to get engaged….that’s gotta be a record, but anyway, congrats!" he said.
“Thanks,” Rachel replied. Brian walked over and wrapped his arms around her.
“Hands off, AJ, she’s mine,” Brian said, trying to keep a straight face. AJ stuck his tongue out at him and they started laughing.
"Do Kevin and D know?" AJ asked after he calmed down.
“Well, Kev knew I was gonna ask her and Howie helped me pick out the ring last week," Brian explained.
"So, what? Was I the last one to know?” AJ asked, pouting.
“Sorry, dude. Everybody knows you have a big mouth, you woulda ruined the surprise,” Brian confessed.
“You know now, so it’s no big deal,” Rachel said. AJ smiled.
“Yeah, ok. Well, I gotta go mingle with the other guests,” he replied. “See ya later.”
“Hey AJ,” Rachel called.
“Yeah?” he asked.
“That is one big, empty pool….” she trailed off.
He smiled. “Go for it….did you guys bring your suits?”
“You bet we did!” Rach exclaimed. Brian looked at her, confused.
“We did?” he asked.
“Well, Liz, Nick, and I did….”
“That’s ok, Rok. You can borrow one of mine,” AJ offered.
“Great, thanks Bone.”
“Don’t mention it, I’ll be out in a little bit,” he told Rachel. He went into the house and Brian followed. A few minutes later, Brian emerged in swimming trunks carrying towels.
“POOL PARTY!” he yelled, throwing the towels on a table. Nick smiled and took his shirt off. Elizabeth and Rachel had their suits on under their clothes. They took off their clothes and placed them in neat piles on the table. They whispered quietly, forming a plan.
“C’mon, gals!” Nick yelled impatiently.
“Coming!” Liz and Rach replied. They walked over to the pool, next to Brian and Nick.
“Looks cold,” Nick whined.
“Maybe I can help you warm up,” Liz suggested. She stood on tiptoes and kissed his lips. Rachel and Brian locked lips, too. Behind Brian’s back, Rachel put out one finger, then two, then three. At that instant, both girls pushed their guys. Brian and Nick flew backwards into the pool. They landed with a large splash.
"We come from a great family, full of intelligence," Liz said.
"Yup, I'd have to agree on that one!" Rach replied.
"Thanks guys, that’s one way to get used to the water," Nick said. "Can you at least help me honey?" he asked Liz.
"Sure baby," Liz said. She went over to the pool and stuck out her hand to help Nick. Nick grabbed her hand quickly and pulled her in too.
"Nickolas Gene Carter….excuse you but, but, but, HOW RUDE!!!" Liz stammered.
"Good one Frack," Brian said.
"Watch it Littrell," Rachel warned. "Liz, don’t tell me you didn't know that Nick was gonna pull you in the pool when you were helping him…."
"I didn’t," Liz replied.
"You are so blond!" Rach said. Rachel stood by the pool teasing her cousin. She didn't even notice that Brian had left her side.
"Got you now," Brian said from behind her. Rachel turned around just in time to see Brian push her in. When she came to the surface, Liz was waiting for her.
"Now look who's blond," Liz chided. Nick just laughed. "Ok, I guess that makes up for you pulling me in," she said to him.
"Yeah,” he said.
From the deck, AJ clapped. “That was great you guys. Grade A entertainment.” He’d watched the whole thing. Everybody laughed and AJ joined them in the pool. The two couples stayed in the pool with AJ. Howie, Kevin, and some other people joined them later. It was a great party.
