About a week later~~~ Nick did allow Katie to see Hayley but only for a few hours a day. Little did he know, that she had 1 of the best lawyers in the country on her side, and that in a few days Nick would be receiving a letter in the mail ordering him to appear in court. Nick, Maria & Hayley were shopping at a local mall. Hayley was in a stroller that Nick put her in, but she wanted out. When Nick and Maria were busy talking, she managed to slid under the safety belt that held her in. Maria noticed her toddling her way down the mall, ran after her and grabbed her arm roughly and carried her back to where Nick was standing. "Daddy, she hurt me" Hayley said. "You, deserved it. I told you to stay in there but you got out" Nick yelled causing people to look at them. Nick raised his hand in the air, but something was preventing him from bringing it down. "You lay 1 finger on her, your gonna die" was whispered harshly in Nick's ear. "Uncle Keby" Hayley shrieked and managed to wiggle her way out of Maria's arms and toddle over and grabbed Kevin's leg and wouldn't let go. Nick turned around to see Kevin there holding his arm up in the air. "Let go" Nick yelled. Kevin let go of his arm. "You touch her, and you will die" Kevin warned. "You can't tell me what to do. Hayley come on lets go" Nick said. "No" Hayley said and held onto Kevin's leg tighter. "Hayley let go" Nick repeated. "No, I wanna go home with Uncle Keby" Hayley said. "Hayley let go" Nick said threw clenched teeth, and went to touch her shoulder to pull her off. By know Hayley started crying. Kevin picked her up and held her against his chest. "Hayley come on, I'll buy you the new toy you wanted" Nick cooed. "I want to stay with Uncle Keby" Hayley said in a stubborn voice. "Just like her mother" Nick thought remembering how stubborn Katie could be at times. "Well yo heard her. We'll be seeing you" Kevin said and turned around walking away with Hayley. "You'll pay for this big time!" Nick yelled after them. "Alright! I'm coming" Katie yelled, as she ran downstairs, to answer the door. She was just getting out of the shower, and was in her bathrobe. She opened the door. "Mommy!" Hayley shrieked and ran to her and hugged her legs. Katie bent kneeled down and while hugging her, picked her up. Katie started crying because she was happy. She then looked at who was standing in the doorway. "Well, I better get going" Kevin said. "No, please come in" Katie asked. Kevin nodded, walked in and closed the door. Katie put Hayley down and hugged Kevin. "I'll explain later, what happened" Kevin whispered in her ear. "Ok, lemme just go change" Katie said realizing what she was wearing and went upstairs. She came back downstairs 5 minutes later. The 3 just spent time together, and by 10 PM Hayley was sound asleep. "You've been in here watching her sleep for 30 minutes' Kevin whispered walking into the room, where Hayley was sleeping. "I'm afraid that if I leave, she won't be here when I come back" Katie whispered back. "She's not going anywhere" Kevin sat down in a chair, and pulled Katie down gently, so she was sitting in his lap. "Katie, please let me back into your life. I love you, I need you" Kevin whispered. Katie kissed him gently. "I feel the same way" she whispered against his lips. Kevin deepened the kiss and stood up with her in his arms, and carried her into her bedroom. He laid her down on the bed and laid down next to her. They began kissing and taking of each other's clothes and loving each other
The next morning~~~Katie and Kevin both woke up to somebody pounding on the front door. "Maybe they will go away" Kevin said and kissed Katie, and rolled her onto her back. He moved down and started kissing her neck. Whoever was at the door, kept pounding on it and ringing the doorbell. Kevin groaned and got up off of Katie, They both put their clothes on and went downstairs to see who was at the door at 6:30 AM. Katie opened the door to find 2 police officers, 1 male, and 1 female, and Nick. "How can I help you" Katie asked. "Can we come in" the Male police officer asked. Katie nodded and let the 3 into her house. "I'm Sgt.. Michaels, and this is my partner, officer Smith" he introduced. "We are here because, Mr. Carter says that a Mr. Kevin Richardson, took his daughter Hayley away from him, when she, him and his wife were at a mall yesterday" He added. "I'm Hayley's mother, Dr. Katie Preston" Katie introduced. "That is not exactly what happened, Nick was going to hit Hayley and I couldn't have that. She is my goddaughter, and like a daughter to me" Kevin said walking into the room. "No, you came up to me and took her right out my arms, and left without any explanation" Nick screamed, and went to punch Kevin. "No fighting. Mr. Carter says that you have no custody of her. Is that right?" Officer Smith asked. "I did, but he took it away from me, for no reason" Katie said. "Will you excuse" Sgt Michaels said. He and Officer Smith went into another room to talk. 5 minutes later they came back. "Ok, Dr. Preston, I'm very sorry, but we will have to take Hayley into State custody for a few weeks" Officer Smith said. "No!" Katie cried. "Yes we do, can you please show me where she is" She asked. Katie nodded as tears started brimming with tears, and went upstairs. 10 minutes later, Officer Smith, Katie and Hayley came downstairs. Katie was crying, Hayley was screaming cause she didn't want to go. Officer Smith took Hayley outside and into a police car. "Mr. Richardson, you are under arrest for interfering in a custody battle" Sgt. Michaels said. Kevin looked shocked. Sgt Michaels, proceeded to tell Kevin his rights, as he put Kevin's hands behind his back and handcuff them. Nick just stood back smiling a very evil looking smile. "Get out of my house!!!" Katie yelled at Nick, who still had the smile on his face. "Maybe, it depends" Nick replied. "On what, you've taken away my daughter, had my boyfriend arrested. What's next going after my parents, and if you do anything to them, you will have to worry about getting your ass back to Earth, cause you'll be on another planet" Katie warned. "Do you understand me" Katie asked. Nick didn't say anything. "Is that understood" Katie repeated. Nick nodded. "Now get out of my house!" Katie yelled. Nick looked at his watch. "Yeah I guess, I do have to go and stop by a 7-eleven for Maria, to get her some chocolate ice cream and peanut butter. In 7 months, I'm going to be a dad" Nick said and left the house. "Bastard" Katie mumbled as she picked up the phone to call her parents, just to make sure they were ok. After she got off the phone, with them she had to go and bail Kevin out of jail.
Over the next couple of weeks. Both Katie and Nick got letters in the mail telling them that there would be a trial, on May 10th for custody of Hayley Preston-Carter. Before the court date, the judge met with both Katie and Nick, separately, to talk to them about Hayley, and about each other's parenting. "Nick, is a lying bastard. 1 minute he can be all sweet and innocent, and the next minute, you'll wish that you don't even know him" Katie told the judge. "Katie, can't trust anybody. Especially me, she always tells, me what Hayley needs, how to take care of her. Plus she is a liar" Nick told the judge. "This is gonna be fun" The judge thought after he met with each of them.
A week before the court date. Katie opened the local paper and read the headline. "Backstreet Boy goes to court over custody of his daughter" "Great" Katie thought sarcastically. She WAS hoping that it would be kept a secret, but it wasn't. When she got done reading the article, and what was at the end of the article made her look twice. "Information given to us by Nick & Maria Carter themselves" was written there. Katie stormed up the stairs. She slammed the door to the bedroom, and kept slamming things. 5 minutes later when she came out of the bathroom that was connected to the bedroom. Kevin was sitting on the bed, with his legs still under the covers. "Sorry" she mumbled. "Baby whats wrong" Kevin asked gently. Katie gave him the paper. He read it. "I'm sorry" he replied and pulled her close and hugged her. "Nick was never like this what has gotten into him, ever since he turned 20 he changed" Katie sighed. "I don't know, maybe you should ask Brian, maybe he knows something" Kevin said. They just sat there in silence for a while. "What time do you have to go to work" Kevin asked suddenly. "Noon why?" Katie asked. "Well it's 10 and you really shouldn't go to work with that attitude" "and what do you plan on doing about it" Katie asked. "This" Kevin said and kissed her passionately and pushed her gently, so she was lying down on the bed. He started kissing her neck and working his hands up her shirt... Just as Kevin was about to pull of Katie's jeans. Her cell phone rang. "Don't you dare get that" Kevin said and pulled off her jeans quickly, and roughly, then moved up to kiss her. She pulled away. "It could be important" Katie said and pulled away and picked up her phone. "Hello" She asked. "Dr. Preston, it's Jill" the person on the phone said. "Jill, I told you and Dan that I'm coming in at noon today" Jill and Dan were her bosses. "I know that, but I'm not asking you to come in as a doctor. We have plenty right now, but there was a very terrible car accident about 30 minutes ago" Jill said. "So, do I know the people who were involved in it?" Katie asked. "Yeah" "who are they" "Nick Carter and your daughter Hayley, it's bad, very bad" Jill said.
