"Brian, I'm begging you. Please work for me tonight," Beth pleaded.
Brian
stared at his best friend like she was crazy. "Beth, I just got off tour.
It's my first night home in Kentucky and you want me to work?" Brian asked.
Beth nodded. Brian smiled.
"Cool. What am I doing while you're with Brad?"
Brian asked. Beth smiled out of relief. Brian Littrell always had a way of
tricking her. "While I'm out with Brad you will be working at the Help line,"
Beth told him.
Brian looked at her confused. "Help line for what?" Beth
grabbed her car keys. "Help line is a program where people call in
anonomousley and tell you about their problems or depression. It's helping
people" Beth explained more simply.
"That's pretty cool. Think anyone will
reconize my voice?" Brian asked. Beth smiled.
"If you're lucky."
Michelle
flicked on the tv. Nothing seemed to be on except long, dull commercials.
Michelle finally got up off the couch but a # caught her eye. Michelle
couldn't resist and she quickly grabbed the phone.
Brian sighed. He couldn't
believe only a few people had called. The one that stuck in his mind most was
a teenage pregnant girl who had called. Brian had talked her through her
problem then after they hung up Brian said a prayer for her. He knew God
would help her. Suddenly Brian's thoughts were interupted by the phone.
"Help
line, how are you tonight?" Brian greeted. Michelle took a deep breath. She
hope she had made the right choice by calling.
"Up to this point it has been
utter hell," Michelle started breaking any ice if there was any. This caught
Brian off guard a little.
"Can I help in anyway?" Brian asked. Michelle
sighed. She needed to explain her problem. Pour her heart out to this man.
"I've been living with an alcoholoic, abusive boyfriend." She explained how
Daniel treated her, how he hit her, didn't let her have friends, would always
start fights. She explained how she had been concimplating suicide. She
explained everything and when she was done she couldn't believe how much
better she felt. Brian listened to the girl's story and his heart broke. No
one deserved to go through what she was going through.
"I'm glad you called
before you took any action," Brian started. "I think you need to leave this
man. Restraining order, cops, anything. This man should be behind bars,"
Brian explained.
Michelle listened and broke down crying. "I know he should
be but how should I do it? I can't. He would hurt me."
Brain took a deep
breath. "Have you tried to put your boyfriend in any alcoholic help related
classes?" Brian asked.
"Oh I've tried. He won't go to any," Michelle said.
"What's your name?" Brian asked.
"What?" Michelle asked.
"I know this is
supposed to be anonymous but I want to help you. I could help you get away
from him," Brian explained.
Michelle stared at the phone. Should she trust
this man? This stranger? Michelle thought but what other choice did she have?
She just couldn't put up with Daniel anymore and this man wanted to help her.
I have to do it, she decided.
"My name is Michelle," she finaly answered.
"Hi
Michelle, I'm Brian," he told her. Then the two engaged in conversation and
thought up a plan.
