IF You Knew What I Knew by Wendy

I awoke with a start. The room was white and seemed very bright. I looked around the room and noticed there were two men there I have not seen before. One was an older gentleman, with a mustaceh and gray hair. He had warm chestnut brown eyes. The other gentleman was young and very handsome. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was tanned, and about 5 foot 8 in height.
"Where am I, what happend?" I asked.
The older man answered," You are at Baptist hospital, You were brought in two weeks ago with multiple injuries. You were attacked by Mr. Jake Miller."
It all rushed back in a flurry. You were at home in your living room, on the phone to your best freind Christy. You heard a car pull up. You got off the phone to greet Jake at the door. He was in a nasty mood. You greeted him with a kiss on the lips and an I love you. He grunted back at you and pushed you out of the way. He went to the kitchen. Dinner was almost ready. The table had been set perfectly. Jake was angry. He shouted at you for not haveing dinner ready. You tried to explain but he lost his temper. He began to hit you. This time it was different. It was much more brutal. He wailed and wailed even harder with each blow. Then before you knew it all was black. You then wake up and you are in the hospital, from a two week coma.
"I remember" I said and began to cry as the thoughts reminded me of that terrible night. I looked down and saw that my arm and left leg were in casts.
There were flowers all over the room, balloons and teddy bears were all over too. You noticed they were from your mother, brother, and Christy. Also people from all over town.
"Ms. Greene, we came here to chat with you, I am agent Johnson and this is agent Molder. We are from the FBI. We are here to get Jake in prison, and we need your help to do it."
"I don't know, Jake is dangerous. He will kill me if I turn him in. I would rather go home and have him beat me than do that."
"Ma'am, I know how hard this is on you but you have too. If you testify against him for the abuse and the drug possesions, we will protect you any way we can."
"What kind of protection do you mean?"
"The witness protection program. It is your safestet bet. We will change any exsistence of Samantha Greene and move you elsewhere and get you started over again."
"What about my family? I don't want to leave them!"
"We understand but its either that or your death. We will also protect them. In fact we may be able to arrange to have them to be in touch with you, even though it is very unorthodox. We are begging you Ms. Greene. Help us."
I sat there and thought about their propsotion. I agreed and testified against Jake. He was sentenced to prison for 6 years with parole availability in 3 years.
As Jake was leaving to go to jail he have a look that said that he would come back for me. I was so frightened. I went home for the last meal with my family. I was not to tell them about my new life. I could send letters to the FBI, who would send them to mom and my brother Harry. I was a stranger now, to myself and my family.
That night, I packed what little belongings I had and said my good byes. I left in a black van and went to the airport. On the way there, Agent Molder and Johnson told me my new life.
"You are now Ms. Gail Lynn Potter. You are from the midwest, in Oklohoma, and moved to Apollo Beach Florida to help your sick grandmother, who passed away in June. You decided to stay, since you had no other family back home. Your are orphaned. You folks died in a car crash when you were five and you were an only child. Your dad had no family to speak of and your mother only had her mother who raised you after their death. You work in a library with illiterate children."
"Okay, I got it"
I reached the airport. I said my goodbyes to the men who changed me. I was a new person, a stranger to myself. They gave me an envelope with a new birth certificate, and all the new information to start my new life. I boarded the plane and went to Florida. That is where my story begins.
