Black-Dove January
Chapter 6

Kevin hung up the phone, a look of relief on his face. "So what did
Johnny and Donna say?", Howie asked anxiously. "They think I'm crazy, and
that I should be careful. But seeing as how this is our time off and it doesn't
leak out to the press, they don't have a problem with it", Kevin replied.
"OK, So not a word to anyone about this, guys", Howie told everyone, settling his
gaze on AJ. "What??", asked AJ, throwing his hands up in the air. "Everyone
knows how hard it is for you to keep a secret", Brian said. "This is
serious. I won't tell anyone", he promised. "What are you going to do about clothes
and stuff for her?", Nick asked. "Take her shopping tomorrow, I guess", replied
Kevin, getting up to check on Raegan.
He opened the bedroom door and quietly stepped inside. She
looked so peaceful while she slept. And in fact Raegan was getting the best
sleep she'd had since running away. Careful not to wake her, he sat down on
the edge of the bed, trying once again to find a reason for his actions.
Kevin didn't understand his reasons. Did he even HAVE reasons for what he did? All
he knew was that he felt a strong something for this girl. Now all that was
left was to figure out what this "something" was. He must've sat there for a
couple hours, because when he finally left the room, Howie and AJ had gone
home and Brian and Nick were watching a late-night movie. Telling the guys
goodnight, he went into the guest room and fell asleep thinking about
Raegan.
The next morning she awoke to the smell of coffee.
Inhaling the scent she missed so much since her grandfather wasn't around to
make it in the morning, she stretched. Suddenly the door to the bathroom
opened and out walked Kevin in nothing but a towel. She remembered this was
his room. Realizing he didn't know she was awake, she kept quiet to save
herself and him from embarassment. He picked out some clothes from his
dresser and then went back into the bathroom, not even glancing her way. She
couldn't help but notice his great body. He was more toned than she had thought. What
would it be like to... Wait! What was she thinking?? Was she attracted to
Kevin?? No, couldn't be. Noticing the magazine she had knocked over before
on the nightstand with the Backstreet Boys on the cover, she picked it up and
began to read the article.
When Kevin came out of the bathroom he saw Raegan sitting up
on the bed, reading a magazine which he recognized to be the one with him and
the guys on the cover. Finishing the article, she looked up and discovered Kevin
watching her. "Morning", he greeted. "So you lost your father to cancer,
huh?"
"Yeah. I know how it feels to lose someone you care about, too." "I didn't
know..." "It's ok. I didn't expect you to. But at least you know more about
me now from that article. I still don't know a lot about you."  She looked down
and Kev realized she didn't want to talk about that now. He would get her to
open up eventually.
"You're welcome to use the shower. And your clothes and the
clothes I found in your backpack are washed..right over there", he told her,
pointing to a small pile on the chest at the foot of his bed. "Thanks", she
replied. "I'm taking you out shopping today so go ahead and get ready. Brian
made pancakes for breakfast."  "Shopping?", she asked. "What, are you just
going to live in those clothes you have with you?", he asked,
half-teasingly.
She shook her head no. "OK, then." "I don't have any money at all......"
"Money's not an issue." "Why are you doing this?", she asked. He got up and
just as he was going out the door, answered "I wish I knew."
