Part 19: ************************************************************************* "Anything?" Nick called, leaning against the door to the truck. Lis opened the mailbox, "Couple things." she looked at the large envelope with Shan's name on it. "This looks kinda official." He jogged over, "She expecting anything?" Lis shrugged, "Didn't say anything. Maybe I should call her?" "Could if you wanted." he pulled his keys out and let them into the Littrell house. "Or you could just leave it." Brian sat in the waiting area of Cliff Montgomery's office and flipped distractedly through the magazine on the chair. "Mr Littrell?" the secretary called from behind her desk and he quickly got to his feet, grabbing his briefcase. "He'll see you now." "Thanks." he smiled at her and quickly headed inside the office. "Brian you're looking well." Cliff greeted shaking his hand. He was an old friend of Brian's father's and had recommended the lawyer Brian and Cassie had used for the divorce. "Thank you, so do you." He sat down and set his briefcase on his lap. "What is it you wanted to see me about? You were rather vague on the phone." "Its uh a rather strange situation Cliff." he watched as a worried look crossed Cliff's face, "And I'd rather appreciate you not telling anyone about this." "Of course Brian, whatever you say is just between the two of us." "Thank you. Well getting to the point," he opened his briefcase and pulled out everything setting it on the desk. "I've been told my divorce to Cassie isn't valid." Cliff frowned, "What?" "Its news to you too then." "Extreme news to me. You realize if that's true..." "My marriage to Shan is null and void, yeah I realize it. And so far only a couple people know about this, Cassie, myself, a couple of friends and thats all." "Shannon..." "Has no idea. She'd freak plain and simple." "I can certainly understand her doing that. What do you want me to do?" "Can you look through some things and tell me if it looks legal? That the papers sent to me aren't a fraud?" "Of course, but it may take me a couple days." "That's all right. I need to go back home anyways. I told her I was in Nashville and stopping in Lexington." "While all the while you've been home in Orlando. Brian are you sure you want to keep something like this from Shannon even if it doesn't prove to be true?" Brian sighed, "She doesn't know anything about Cassie..." "Kevin you better come home." Alec said as she heard him pick up. He rubbed his eyes, "Alec I haven't even seen Brian yet...just give me a day or two." "A day or two and I may not be here." At those words he sat up in bed and quickly turned the light on, momentarily blinding himself. "What the??? What happened?" "A nice little envelope was delivered to me this morning..." He cursed under his breath, "Who sent it?" "Thats the thing no return address." "Alec I..." "You what Kevin?? You seemed to all ready have an idea what it is I've been sent so that makes me think its true. Just what's going on here Kev?" He rubbed his temples, "You want me to come home or do you want to come up here? I'm at the cabin..." "I don't know...I think you should come home." "I'll be on the next flight..." and before he could say anything else the line was dead. Alec picked up the picture of the little boy and studied it, he looked like Kevin did when he was young. She put her head in her hands and cried. AJ chewed his lip as he watched Jenn talk on the phone in her office. All the wives had booked the next month or more off on vacation since the guys were supposed to have the same time off. He saw her toss the phone down and he walked in. "Bad news?" She sighed, "Just a couple little things. Nothing major." He sat down across from her, "Me and D were doing some talking and uh I think us guys need to go away for a few days once Kev and Bri get back frm wherever." "But I thought..." "We weren't getting along? We're working things out slowly. Its just if we start legal action soon..." "You could get rid of all the bad publicity." she finished and he nodded. "J you never have to explain it to me." Jenn smiled and got up walking over to him. "But something tells me there's something else going on." "Like what?" he asked nervously, playing with the edge of his shirt. She shrugged, "I don't know but I think you'll tell me when your ready." It was hours later by the time Kevin walked through the front door of his house, he'd headed straight to the airport with his chequebook and said he'd pay whatever price but he needed a charter home to Orlando immediately. He had never seen people move so fast. "Alec?" he yelled into the darkness. The fact the house was unusually silent was worrying him. He dropped his bag and headed straight to her office, finding her sitting at her desk in the dark mumbling to herself. "Alec?" he knelt beside her and pulled her into his arms. "Don't!!" she said, pushing him away. "Don't do that." He squeezed his eyes shut, "What did he send you?" he asked rubbing her back. She sniffled, wiping away her tears with the back of her hand. "You have a son congratulations." "No I don't...I mean its possible Alec but look at me..." Alec laughed, "Why so you can try to explain it to me? I mean you must laugh over how stupid I've been over the last couple years. When you went fishing with your brothers you probably took your son...got in some good old fashioned male bonding huh? He playing football yet or are you waiting till he's older? Its no wonder you wanted to wait for us to have children, you all ready have one!!"
