Part 30 **************************************************************************** Nick laid in bed unable to sleep. He rolled over and reached for his cell phone. Maybe he'd call Lis and talk till he fell asleep. He pulled the phone closer to him and clicked it on, hitting speed dial. After four rings the machine picked up and he hung up, not wanting to leave a message. She'd be able to tell something was wrong in his voice and just worry some more. Lis sat in Shan's room listening to her friend tell her all about Lexington. Her eyes drifted down to the pictures in her hand, E was sending them to David first thing in the morning. Shan leaned back against the headboard, "So your saying you don't think Brian's cheating?" "I'm just saying the pictures look a lot like the ones I saw of Nick. And he tried to tell you in Lexington..." "No he didn't. He had no idea about these, he thought it was something else." "Don't kill me for saying this but maybe for the next couple days, give Rok the benefit of the doubt." "I'll see." "Just till you find out if the pictures were taken by the same guy. You heard E before, David's working on finding him as we speak." Jenn glanced up as Ty walked into the kitchen, "Couldn't sleep?" Ty shook her head and sat down at the table, "No. Just kept seeing Howie's face so I figured I'd come down here, maybe channel surf. Why are you up?" "Waiting for J to call. I figure he'll call late...the guys are having a meeting today so maybe he'll tell me what went on." "Are you gonna tell him I'm here?" "If I do I'll swear him to secrecy." "Thanks Jenn, just don't want Howie showing up on the front step first thing tomorrow giving me a lecture." "Then we'd have to kick him out." Ty raised an eyebrow, "I like that idea. Almost makes me want to call and tell him where we are." Meanwhile, Alec and E sat in the living room of the cabin, staring intently at the computer screen. "Think we're going to find anything tonight?" Alec asked, rubbing her sore neck. "Could...might not." She nodded, "What is it we're looking for??" "First we've got to find all the Taylor Adams in Kentucky, then go through and see who matches, it can be a long elimination process." "Great. What if she doesn't live in Kentucky anymore??" "Then we're in for a very LONG search." "Goody." Alec drained the last of her coffee, "How was Nick's case going?" E shrugged, "Not bad...I talked to his bodyguard who really didn't have much to say...David talked to Bubba last night. Guess he had some sort of part in it. Didn't get the total run down yet, but now David's going after the photographer so if Lis wanted to be ahead of the guys we'd start to dig for information on the girl." Upstairs, Lis called home and checked the machine, listening to the two hang ups. She knew it was probably Nick and decided to give his cell a quick call. He picked it up on the first ring with a sleepy voice. "Did I wake you up?" He smiled tiredly, "I was dozing...not a lot of sleeping going on. Where are you?" "I went away for a little bit." she answered vaguely while she traced the patterns on the comforter. "you okay?" "I guess yeah." She nodded, "You sure? You sound off..." Nick rubbed his forehead, "Kevin's in bad shape, we came to the meeting and found him pretty much drunk. AJ tried to sober him up before any of us got there but it was pretty noticeable. God I wish things would go back the way they used to be." Lis nodded, wanting to say she knew but Jenn had sworn all the wives to secrecy. "Maybe they will." "I don't think so anymore Lis. There's too much stuff that's happened." "Like what??" "Internal stuff. So when are you coming home?" She sighed, "I really don't know." "You and the other girls together?" "Nicky I can't answer that." "All right I won't say a word." "Thanks." AJ checked in on Kevin and found him sound asleep, sprawled out across his bed. He sighed with relief and closed the door, heading down the hall to his own room. As he passed the other doors, he could hear Brian watching television and Nick whispering to someone, through D's door he heard light snoring and knew his best friend was sound asleep. He shut the door to his room and called his wife. Jenn picked her cell phone off the kitchen table and walked outside to answer it, "Hey." "Hey. I'm not calling too late am I?" he asked nervously as he sat down on the bed. "Nope, its only one in the morning. Plus I was wide awake." "Good didn't want to wake you." "How'd the meeting go?" she asked, sitting down on the back steps. He groaned, "Well now Lou wants to manage all of us in our solo careers, he's threatening to give the information on D over to the feds. We're all kind of at a crossroads over what to do." "I told you I never liked him didn't I?" "Yeah, well you had a good sense of judgement where he's concerned. I don't Jenn, as much as I love D like a brother I don't think I want to give Lou back control over us...not like we haven't given him enough lately but still..." "I know...What if you didn't go back, just told him to go to hell?" "I think he'd take all that stuff he has on us to the press. Nick's hired a private investigator to look into everything, like he said if we can disprove it we're in good shape." "Yeah...do you know how much I'd like to hurt Lou right now?" "Probably about as much as we do."
