10,000 Kisses Chapter 72
Kevin followed Dr. Evans into the ER room they had placed her in. He could see her laying there with her eyes closed. Both Suz and the baby were hooked up to heart monitors recording their every beat.

Dr. Evans saw Kevin glance at the monitors and glance at her. Anticipating his questions, she interrupted him, "I'll explain everything to you."

Kevin trudged forward coming to stand at the side of Suz's bed. She instantly opened her eyes reaching out a hand to him.

"Hi honey," Kevin said his voice caked with emotion. He hated seeing her lying in the cold unfeeling gurney.

"Hi Kevin," Suz said shakily as she glanced over at Dr Evans.

Kevin leaned down brushing his lips against hers, "How are you feeling?"

"I won't lie. I was in pain but they gave me some morphine," she said as she tried to keep herself from yawning.

"Kevin, I'm going to explain to you exactly what I told Suz," Dr. Evans started.

"Please, I want to know," Kevin urged.

Nick ushered Lyndsay into his car not bothering to say goodbye to his birthday guests. He wasn't even aware of what happened to Suz.

He drove home in silence as he watched Lyndsay sniffle from time to time and continuely gaze out the window. To anyone else passing by, it would see she was looking at the passing scenary but Nick knew she was mulling over what Joaquin had said to her.

He parked the car at the house and ushered Lyndsay quickly inside with no protest from her.

Once he sat her down, she flung her arms around him crying hysterically chanting that it was her fault over and over again.

He let her cry as he soothed her back with his hand. After a few moments, she lifted her head, "I'm sorry."

"You must have a fetish with crying on guys' shoulders," Nick joked.

He was pleased to see Lyndsay laugh at his lame attempt at a joke. He took her hands in his rubbing his thumbs over her smooth palms. He heard her breath catch in her throat from his touch.

"Tell me what Joaquin was talking about," he probed.

Reluctantly, Lyndsay started her story. Surprising herself, she managed to tell it without crying again. Nick just sat and listened to Lyndsay.

"And that was the end," Lyndsay said, "I finally got out of the relationship but only because he overdosed on heroin."

She got up and started to pace the room.

~The Hospital~

"What initially caused the bleeding was that the baby's placenta slightly tore away from the uterous. That is why Suz was feeling some slight pain or discomfort for the past few days. Like she said, we have given her some painkillers for now," Dr. Evans said.

"Well, what can be done about this and can she lose the baby?" Kevin asked as he squeezed Suz's hand in reassurance.

"First, we want to take more tests to see what else is going on. In the meantime, while the other tests are being done, we are going to call her OB/GYN doctor to consult with her. There is a possibility that she might have to go on complete, and I mean COMPLETE, bed rest so that the placenta can reheal and attached itself once again to the wall of the uterus," she finished.

Kevin nodded processing all she said.

"Until then, lets not speculate. Suz needs some rest. We will admit her and move her up to the maternity ward. You are welcome to stay with her as long as you want," Dr. Evans said.

"Thank you, Dr. Evans," Kevin said shaking her hand.

"I'm only doing my job," Dr. Evans said smiling at the couple, "I'll notify you of when a room is ready. Until then, you can stay in here with her. I'll also let you know when we will take her for further testing."

Dr. Evans went to exit out of the room but stopped, "One more thing, I'll post a hospital guard out in the hallway in case of any fans or reporters. Don't hesitate to call security if someone approaches you that doesn't have a hospital ID on."

Kevin and Suz nodded their thanks as the doctor exited.
