10,000 Kisses
"Lyndsay...Lyndsay," Nick said grabbing her arm and swinging her around. He
watched as she cringed from his touch and a look of fear entered her eyes.
"Oh baby," he said, "I didn't mean to scare you."
She smiled weakly.
"You have been through alot in the past few years. You know, Joaquin is very
right. You didn't cause River's death. Johnny didn't cause it. Joaquin
didn't cause it. Keanu didn't cause it. Don't blame yourself. You tried to
help him and he abused you, drugs or no drugs," Nick said steering her
towards the sofa.
"I know...I know...I just can't help feeling like I could have did
SOMETHING!" she shouted becoming quite agitated.
"Baby, you have to realize that we can't always solve everything. We can
only try and help. You have to let this go and stop blaming yourself. It
doesn't matter how good or quiet or loving you were towards him, he wasn't
going to change unless he wanted to," he said cradling Lyndsay.
They sat there watching as the darkness floated in over the city. Soon,
Lyndsay was sleeping against Nick, her hair spread out over his chest.
He softly ran his hands through her hair. Gently, he lifted her up and
walked to his bedroom. He placed her on his bed, removing her shoes.
Placing the blanket over her, he kissed her forehead heading back to the
living room.
Dropping onto the couch, Nick laid his arms across his eyes promptly falling
asleep.
~The Hospital~
"Suzanne and Kevin," Dr. Evans said walking into the room with an orderly
following her, "Dr. Creech is here to see you. She wanted to take care of
you personally."
"I'm going for the tests?" Suz said nervously as she glanced at Kevin. She
felt his hand caressing her shoulder making his presence known to her.
"We are going to do an amniosentsis (sp?) and draw some blood," Dr. Evans
said wheeling Suz out of her hospital room.
Minutes later, they were all set to draw the amnio fluid from Suz. She laid
on her back a little uncomfortably from the torn placenta but was being
brave.
Suz decided to focus on Kevin's gorgeous green eyes knowing that would
distract her for the time being.
Kevin sensed her fearfulness and nervousness. He bent down to her so that
they were eye level and just held her stare. He could see her irises
decrease in size as Dr. Creech stuck her with the needle and carefully drew
out the amniotic fluid. Her eyes tempted to close from the pain but forced
them open determining to continue to focus on Kevin. He saw a rush of relief
wash across her face when the doctor withdrew the needle.
Dr. Creech handed the vile labeled with Suzanne's name to the technican who
hand carried to be tested.
"Suz?" Dr. Creech said, "I don't want you to jump to any conclusions here."
Suz looked up surprised.
"I know what you are thinking," she continued looking back and forth between
Kevin and Suz.
Kevin smiled appreciatively at Dr. Creech.
"You are a tough woman, Suz, and you will survive what ever happens," she
said, "I'll see you in your room later today with the test results. Until
then, get some rest. And Kevin?"
He looked up.
"Don't let her get up at all. Do you understand?" Dr. Creech said sternly.
"I understand perfectly," Kevin said wrapping his arm around Suz.
"Ok...Carl!" the doctor yelled calling for the orderly.
"Let me," Kevin said, "I remember the way back to her room."
"Ok," she said then she quickly exited the room.
