“That was Nick. Too bad you missed him! I want you two to meet each other,” Lila answered. “He was helping me study.”
“He was helping you study, huh? Don’t lie to me, Lila,” he said menacingly.
“Josh, I swear I’m not lying to you. Nick and I are just friends.”
He stepped closer to her so they were nose to nose. “Are you cheating on me?”
She waved her hand in front of her face and scrunched up her nose. “Are you drunk?”
“You didn’t answer my question.”
“No, I’m not cheating on you. Now answer my question. Have you been drinking?”
“You’re lying.” Before she had a chance to reply, he slapped her hard across the face. “I’m leaving.” He slammed the door.
Her hand flew to her cheek and tears filled her crystal blue eyes. After changing into pajamas, she went to the mirror and found a red handprint where he had hit her. “He was drunk and he saw another guy leave. You can’t blame him,” stated a voice inside of her. For some reason, she didn’t believe it.
