“I do,” Michelle replied.
“I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Nick threw her veil back and leaned in close. “I love you, Shelle,” he said before their lips met.
“I love you, too, Nick.”
“I’m glad you came home.”
“Me, too.”
On their way out of the church, they stopped for several hugs and handshakes.
“I’m so happy you came back, sweetheart,” Laura said. “You two are too perfect of a couple not to be together.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
They received congratulations from their siblings and Nick’s parents. “I can’t believe you two actually got married,” Jane cried. She had mascara streaks down her face, and she was wiping her nose with a tissue. “I hate weddings!”
Katelin, who was now eighteen and graduated from high school, was the last in line. “You guys look so happy!” she exclaimed. She threw her arms around her father’s neck. “Congratulations, Daddy.” Then she hugged her mom. “I love you both.”
“I love you, too,” they replied in unison.
They left the church, hand in hand, finally Mr. and Mrs. Carter.
