Chapter 24

When they got out, there was a purple Corvette convertible in the driveway. “Huh, that’s weird. Christina must have gotten home early or something. She left her car at the airport,” Nick stated. Hopefully Beth didn’t notice how uncomfortable he was.

“Is everything alright? You don’t look too happy about it,” Beth pointed out.

“Oh, yeah, everything’s fine. I’m just surprised.” He forced a smile. Truth be told, he hadn’t pitched the idea of Beth living with them to Christina until after he had made the offer, and she had not been happy. He had convinced her it was too late, and she had given up, but he still wasn’t eager to see the two girls meet.

“Are you just going to stand there all day, Nick?” Beth teased. “You’ve been staring off into space for about fifteen seconds.”

“Oh, sorry. Let’s go in.” He grabbed her suitcases and walked up to the door, but it opened before he got there.

“Nicky!” Christina exclaimed, nearly tackling him. Beth watched the lovebirds from a few feet away, completely intimidated. The girl before her was absolutely gorgeous; a Barbie doll down to the long blond hair, big boobs, long legs, tiny waist, and blue eyes. She was the living image of Barbie. ‘With women like Christina around, no wonder he stopped talking to me,’ Beth thought glumly.

Nick finally broke apart from her. “Chrissie, this is my old friend, Beth. Beth, this is my fiancée, Christina.”

Beth stuck her hand out shyly. “Hi, it’s nice to meet you.”

“It’s nice to meet you, too,” Christina said. Her voice was dripping with sugar.

Pleased with the result of the introduction, Nick picked up Beth’s bags again and led the way into the house. “You two girls can stay down here and chat while I bring these up to Beth’s room.”

“Okay, sweetheart,” Christina said. As soon as Nick was out of earshot, Beth watched as his fiancée’s face went from smiling to downright vicious. “I swear to God, bitch, if you so much as even look at my man the wrong way, I will kick your ass and then kick you out. He is mine, and I will not have some little skank get in my way,” she hissed. “I refuse to lose him to a little bitch like you, not that I really need to worry. No way would he ever leave ME for someone like YOU.”

Beth took a deep breath and swallowed her anger. This was not something she needed. “Look, Christina, I don’t know about you, but I have morals. I would never touch another girl’s fiancé. And I don’t think Nick is ANYONE’S man except for his own. If we’re going to be living together for the summer, it would be best if you could just trust me.”

Before Christina could reply, Nick stepped in and sat down, oblivious to the tension. “Baby, what are you doing home? I thought you were in Paris until Monday.”

“Oh, Pierre let me go home early. He said I had worked hard enough all week,” Christina answered. “What do you do, Beth?”

Beth cleared her throat. “I’m an aspiring artist.”

“Oh, that’s nice. I’m a fashion designer.”

Again, not noticing the dislike between the two girls, Nick sighed. “I don’t know about you two, but I’m starving. Do you want to go out and get something to eat?”

“You two can go out. I had dinner with Judy,” Christina stated. Judy was her personal assistant.

“Okay. We’ll be back a little later.” He kissed her on the mouth, and Beth looked away uncomfortably. “Bye, babe.”
