Chapter 23

Finally, the time came for everyone to leave, and Christine gave everyone hugs. When she got to Andrew, he picked her up and lifted her off the ground in a tight embrace. “I missed you so much, girl,” he whispered. She kissed him on the cheek, and he did the same to her. “Give me a call sometime.”

“I will. It was great to see you again, Andrew.”

Then it was Katelyn’s turn. “You did good tonight, Chris.”

“Thanks, Kate. Thanks for even showing up after what I did to you,” Christine replied.

“Don’t worry about it. I probably would have done the same thing,” Katelyn said modestly. “And also, I think you did a pretty good job of making Nick jealous,” she added, giggling.

Christine’s face lit up. “You think so?”

“Absolutely. I’ll see you soon, girl. Have fun finishing the tour! Call me a lot!” Katelyn said.

Christine boarded the bus and collapsed into the first seat she saw, and she almost fell on top of Nick. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t see you,” she said casually.

“Yeah, good job tonight,” Nick mumbled.

“Thanks. You, too,” she said. “It was great to see everyone.”

“Yeah, I could tell,” Nick muttered.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“What was all that with Andrew? Were you trying to hurt me?” Nick said angrily.

“Nick, Andrew and I are friends. We’re close friends. He may be my ex, but that’s over. Besides, you rejected me, remember?” Christine reminded him.

“Chris, that’s not you. Don’t try to lie to me. You were trying to make me jealous.”

“God, someone is full of themselves. You’re not that much of a big deal. I’m not going to go around hanging all over guys just so you can see what you’re missing,” Christine said. “Although from the way you’re acting, it looks like it would have worked. You look pretty damn jealous to me.”

“Yeah, right. I’m not jealous,” Nick lied. “What happened between us is in the past. It’s over.” It hurt him so much to say that. Dozens of thoughts were streaming through Nick’s mind. Why did Christine have to be so damned cute? Now he had to share a room with her, and though he was still mad, he knew something was going to happen, something bad. For a moment, he considered sleeping in Brian’s room, but decided that for one night, he could keep control over himself. How did he get himself into this anyway? Why did I sleep with her? Why didn’t I use protection? Why did I say all those things to her? Why did I call her a slut? Why am I jealous? Why won’t I take her back?
