Chapter 24

“Nick, are you almost done in there?” Christine shouted, pounding on the door. She wanted to change into her pajamas and go to sleep, but Nick was in the bathroom.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Nick muttered from inside.

“That’s what you said ten minutes ago,” Christine mumbled to herself. After another five minutes, she decided to change in the room, realizing he would be in there for a while. However, as soon as she got everything off except her panties, the bathroom door creaked open, and Nick stepped out in his boxers and an undershirt. “Shit!” she exclaimed.

“Oh my God! I’m sorry! Uh…” Nick mumbled awkwardly. He was extremely embarrassed, not only by the fact that he walked in on her, but the fact that he liked what he saw. Carter, get that thought out of your mind! A relationship between you two will not work!

“No, that’s okay. I should have just waited for the bathroom. Well, what difference does it make? You got me pregnant, so it’s not like you haven’t seen me naked,” Christine said. She pulled her tank top over her head and pulled on her shorts. She smiled slyly. She could tell by the look on his face that it was hard for him not to come back to her.

Nick sat down on the bed and stared at Christine, in her tight tank top and tiny shorts, wondering if they really qualified as clothes. She looked so sexy! Quickly, he shook his head and tore his eyes away from her as she climbed under the covers of her bed. Thank God they had separate beds. He closed his eyes and fell asleep almost immediately.

Christine looked at the strong, powerful man standing over her and remembered that this was the man she said she loved only twenty minutes ago. He ran his fingers through his short, spiky black hair and smiled cruelly at her, giving her an idea of what he was going to do next. Seconds passed, and nothing happened, and then suddenly, he lunged for her.

“Jeff, no, get off me! Let me go!” Christine shrieked frantically, immediately waking both her and Nick up. When she realized it was a dream, she collapsed into a fit of tears.

“Chris, what’s wrong? What happened?” Nick exclaimed, concerned. He slid out of bed and went to comfort her. He sat down and pulled her close as she sobbed into his chest.

“It was so real, Nick. So real,” she mumbled. “It was Jeff. God, I hadn’t had that nightmare in years.”

“Shh, you’re safe. I’ve got you,” Nick soothed.

He brushed a few wet brown strands of hair out of her face and looked into her eyes. Instead of seeing the fear he had expected, he saw longing, and he realized there was probably a similar look in his own eyes. He leaned forward and licked his lips, wondering if he should kiss her or not. After what seemed like hours, he went for it. At first, she was surprised, but then her lips parted and she let his tongue slip in.

When she pulled away, she looked up at him. “Nick, this isn’t going to be like the elevator, is it? If it is, then don’t bother. I don’t need you to play any more games with my emotions.”

Nick cupped her cheek in his hand. “This is right. This isn’t a mistake.”

“Promise?”

“I promise,” he replied as he slipped her tank top off, revealing her bare chest. She looked away and blushed slightly, but he lifted her chin. “You’re beautiful.” He pulled off her shorts and panties, as she undressed him.

After they made love, they spent the rest of the night in each other’s arms.
