A nurse interrupted his thoughts. “Excuse me, sir, do you need assistance?”
“No, I was here to visit Heather Ashton, but apparently, she left,” he said glumly. “I don’t suppose you could give me her address, could you?”
“No, I’m sorry, I’m not allowed to do that. I can tell you that she left five minutes ago with her sister, but that’s it.”
He hung his head and let out a sigh of regret. There was no way he could find her in a city as big as Tampa. “Thank you, ma’am,” he said.
Driving home, the realization hit him. He was never going to see her again. Great, he fell in love with her, and ruined it before he could even get her number. Just then, it dawned on him that she had said she was in love with him in her ranting the day before. He hadn’t even noticed. Had she really felt that strongly about him? “Dammit, Heather, if you would have only trusted me. You should have known I wouldn’t hurt you,” he mumbled to the empty car as he pulled into his driveway.
