Chapter 35

Brian was watching TV when an idea struck him. Surely, Nick could get Madeleine to come out, if anyone could. He bolted to the door and opened it, planning to go talk to his friend, but stopped in his tracks when he saw what was out there. His jaw just about hit the floor. Nick’s tongue was down Loryn’s throat. Loryn, of all people! If it had been some random stranger, Brian wouldn’t have cared so much, but it was Loryn, the biggest bitch of all time. With the intent to yell at Nick later, he quickly turned and went back into the room.

Madeleine quickly slapped some makeup on before leaving her room. She was going to go talk to Nick and straighten this out. When she looked outside, she found Brian closing the door to their room. “Where were you?” she asked.

“I was just talking to Kevin,” he lied. “Why aren’t you crying anymore?”

“Because, like you said, it’s not gonna do me any good to cry about it. I’m gonna go talk to Nick,” she answered, stepping past him.

“Mattie, wait!” Brian exclaimed a little too quickly. “He’s…uh…not in his room. That’s why I was talking to Kevin. Kevin was looking for him.”

“Well, maybe Kevin’s found him and I can go ask Kevin where he is. I need to do this, Brian.”

He stepped in front of the door. “I wouldn’t go out there if I were you. There are a bunch of fans waiting, and they’re gonna rip you apart, even if you are my sister. You’re still a girl in a Backstreet Boy’s hotel room.”

“God, I can take care of myself! I’ll be fine! Please move so I can go find my boyfriend!”

‘He isn’t gonna be your boyfriend for long…’ Brian thought. Giving up, he moved out of her way, hoping Nick had managed to move his make-out session into his room.

He watched as Madeleine opened the door and winced as she cried out. She quickly spun around and slammed the door before crumpling to the floor in a shaking, crying mass. “That’s why you didn’t want me to go out there,” she whispered.
