He stepped in and sat down on the bed next to her. “Hey.”
She sat up and grabbed a tissue to wipe her face. “Hi. Where were you? I heard the door close when you came in.”
“I went to talk to Nick. I told him he and I are no longer friends.” He purposely left out the part about finding Loryn there. No need to hurt Madeleine any more than she already was.
“What about the Backstreet Boys?”
“I can deal with him as far as that goes, but that’s it. I am so mad at him. I can’t believe he would hurt you like that.”
“What about Loryn? Was she there?”
“How did you know?”
“Lucky guess. So she was there. He slept with her.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s all right. I’m better off without him if he can do something like that to me.”
He changed the subject. “What are you gonna do about the show tonight? You want me to get Fatima to fill in for you? She probably wouldn’t mind.”
“No, I don’t wanna give Nick the satisfaction of seeing me sit out tonight.”
“I don’t think it would give him any satisfaction. He was really upset about you seeing him and Loryn. He cares about you.” Brian didn’t mean to defend him, but he knew Madeleine deserved to hear the whole story.
“Good. Then it’ll hurt him more to see that I’m not too upset to perform tonight,” she said, smiling slightly.
He snickered. “There’s the sister I raised.”
She giggled, but her smile faded quickly. “He really was upset?”
“Yeah. He supposedly didn’t think you cared about him.”
“God, what an idiot! If I didn’t care about him, why would I have slept with him? He knew I took that kind of stuff seriously.”
“I don’t know, but have you ever really known Nick to be that perceptive of women?”
She smiled again. “Good point.”
