All the concerts were a lot of fun, and she really enjoyed the experience, but when the tour finished, she was not complaining. It was hard work, and she was tired of it. She had already finished high school because she had started school a year early, but she wanted to go to college (for primary education, not dance) and live a normal life again, so when she was offered a position for the next tour, whenever that was going to be, she politely turned it down.
A few weeks after the tour ended, she moved back in with her parents. She planned to stay there as she waited for the next school year to start so she could go to a small private college where she lived.
A couple weekends after, Madeleine was curled up on the couch, reading a book. She was home alone, and the doorbell rang. She opened the door to find her best friend standing there.
“Leigh, it’s so good to see you! What are you doing here?” Madeleine exclaimed.
“I needed help with the wedding plans. Brian and I finally set a date. We’re getting married September 2, and I’m not at all prepared,” Leighanne replied.
“Oh, I am so happy for you!” her friend squealed.
“Who’s all home?”
“No one. Mom and Dad are out to dinner. Harold stopped by earlier, but he only stayed for a few minutes.”
“I need to talk to you.”
Madeleine started to ask whether it was a good or bad talk, but she saw the sparkle in Leighanne’s eyes, and knew it was good, so she just went into the living room and sat down. “Okay, what do you wanna talk about?”
“I thought about this for a long time, and I realized, I want you to be my maid of honor. What do you say?” Leighanne said quickly.
“OMIGOD! You’re asking ME to be your maid of honor? I am so touched!” Madeleine exclaimed. “Of course I will!”
“There’s one problem. Nick is the best man, so you’ll have to walk down the aisle with him and dance with him at the reception and all.”
“Honey, to be your maid of honor, I would face a whole sea of Nicks.” Both girls grinned and hugged each other.
All weekend, the two shopped around for brides’ and bridesmaids’ dresses, and Leighanne got ideas of what she wanted. For the bridesmaids, she wanted a long, baby blue, satin dress that flared at the waist with a shawl to go over it. For the bride, she wanted a white dress that was tight fitting until the knees, and then flared into a train.
“Oh, gosh, Leigh, your wedding is gonna be so great!” Madeleine exclaimed.
