He touched her lips with his fingertips, silencing her. “Come inside and change clothes. I’ll make you some hot chocolate and then you can tell me whatever you want.”
Fifteen minutes later, they were situated at the kitchen table, ready to talk. “I’m sorry I didn’t get in touch with you earlier, Nick. Brad left three days ago, and I thought I was in love with him, but then I listened to ‘Back To Your Heart,’ and my feelings did a 180. I realized that I loved Brad as a friend, but I was in love with you.” She stopped to collect her thoughts, and he took the chance to ask her a question.
“Do you trust me?”
“I do. I’m willing to take the chance, Nick. I don’t want to be without you, and if I get hurt, it’s worth it for just one more night with you.”
Unable to hold back his relief, he let out a sigh and pulled her into a warm hug, closing his eyes, savoring the moment. “I would never dream of hurting you again, Madeleine. I love you more than you could ever imagine.”
