The Game-Everyone Plays
Date: 01/14/01
You don't pick teams,
but someone always gets picked last.
It's all about skill,
but nothing to do with strong, or fast.
You don't have colors,
everyone has their own unique uniform.
There is no field,
it's played at work, on streets, in dorms.
You don't need a ball,
in this action, anyone can take part.
Sometimes you fall,
you don't break bones - just your heart.
Some play for money,
some play for blood,
some play for honey,
but end up with mud.
Some play it hard,
some never learn,
some find the cards,
and then watch them burn.
We all play the game,
each day of our lives we will try.
You practice the moves,
we jump, we spin, we run, we cry.
There are no star players,
everyone falters though some never win.
Everyone has their goal,
what she finds in love, he finds in sin.
Sometimes you'll get lost,
running the right way for the wrong goal.
Maybe you'll make it,
finally free to rest your weary soul.
You can't stop the game,
any more than you can win,
but you won't quit playing,
and the game never ends.
