Part Two

“So how bad does Lynne NOT want to do this?” Becky handed Kevin his drink and invited him to sit down.
“Thanks. She’s, um…anxious. Regretting the amount of alcohol that was in the decision.”
“Yeah…so, uh…do you think they’ll go through with this?” Becky joined him on the couch, but continued to keep her distance. This was too weird.
“I don’t know. I know she refuses to be one upped. And she does like Nick…just not that way, ya’ know?”
“Oh yeah, I know plenty. Still doesn’t know what I see in him.”
“You two are good together. That’s all that matters.” He took a sip of his drink and looked at his ‘partner’ for the evening. Truth was, he had met Bec first and was instantly attracted to her. But they weren’t a match like she and Nick were. Like he and Lynne were. But for tonight? For this silly experiment? Yeah, he was ready. “How ‘bout you? You okay with this?”
“Yeah…I’m fine. Anything in the name of science and all…”
“Good…glad to hear it.” He finished off his drink, set it on the coffee table and slid closer to her, taking her hand in his and slowly kissing each finger. “All in the name of science.”
“Okay…rest the tip of your tongue on your bottom teeth, ike ith.” Lynne was insistent Nick show her how to do the ‘tongue talking’ trick. Three beers later, all she could do was stick out her tongue and lisp.
“Open your mouth more so the face of your tongue fills it up…yeah! There!”
“Ike ith?”
“Yes! Now rest…” he tried it again himself to check what he did next, “okay, rest your top teeth on your tongue…”
“Eh?”
“Yep. And while keeping your tip on the bottom and your teeth kinda on top…move your tongue back and forth. It should…no…why won’t it work?” He did it again with ease.
“I don’t know. I have a faulty tongue?”
“I doubt that. Looks like you’ve got a good one.”
Not nice. Do not smirk, Carter. I don’t want to like you that way. “Thanks…why won’t it crease? Lemme try again.” Tip on bottom teeth, mouth slightly open, top teeth on…top and move… “Nah?”
“Sorta? Um…” Nick did it again and just shook his head. “I don’t know, Lynne. I just do it!”
“Well shit. I’m a tongue failure.” She popped him in the arm, collecting the beer bottles off her coffee table, trying to avoid the real reason they were together this evening.
Truth was, he was a bit uncomfortable as well. He and Lynne were friends, no doubt. But, neither had ever really had much thought of the other in any sexual way. Now, after one stupid drunken night they were here feeling like nervous teenagers on a first date. Only this was “a scientifuck experiment.” And if they didn’t follow through, Bec and Kev would never let them hear the end of it.
Grabbing dirty plates and napkins from their pizza feast, Nick joined her in the kitchen. “So, uh…do you think they’re going through with this?”
“Absolutely. Kevin’s always had a thing for Bec. She’s always had something for him. I bet they’re having a ball.”
“And that doesn’t bother you?”
“Bother you?”
“Well, no…I guess not. I know where we stand.”
Slamming the dishwasher closed, Lynne finally met Nick’s eyes. She’d been avoiding them all night. Truth was, they captivated her every time she landed in them. She’d just never admit it. “I know what you mean. No worries.”
“Yeah. So, uh…”
“Yeah. Now what?”
