Chapter 24

"So what did you guys do in New York?" Claire asked driving home.

Nick was in the front seat with her, on the passenger side. Aj and Angie were sitting in the back seat, with Howie on Angie's other side, sleeping of course. And Kevin and Brian were in the middle seat.

"We mostly recorded that Tv special. They didn't give us much downtime." Kevin said.

"Yeah, that's dumb though! I swear you guys work too hard to not have downtime." Angie said leaning her head on Aj's shoulder.

Aj laughed lightly and Angie kissed his cheek before settling back on his shoulder. Claire looked over at Nick who was lightly snoring. She laughed quietly before turning onto the exit to go home.

Claire stopped at Howie's house first. He whispered good-bye to Claire, since everyone else was sleeping.

"Get some sleep Howie, you look like hell." Claire laughed.

"Such a great friend Claire..." he laughed walking up to his house.

Claire drove on to Brian's house next. He said bye, then Claire headed over to Kevin's. After dropping him off, Claire turned around and woke up Angie.

"Are you going to your place, or Aj's?" she asked.

"Um, I'll just go to Aj's..." she yawned.

Claire nodded and headed over to Aj's house. When they got there, Angie shook Aj up before saying bye and leaving with him. Claire drove over to Nick's and shook him lightly.

"Nick, you're home." she said.

He stretched and opened the car door. He paused before getting out, and turned back to Claire.

"Thanks for driving us home, love you." he said kissing her lips softly.

"Your welcome Nick, sleep well." she said.

She watched him get out of the car and tiredly stumble up his driveway. She smiled before driving away back to her apartment. Claire went inside her apartment, changed and fell asleep within minutes.

The alarm rudely awakened her at 7:30am. She groaned and hit it off before getting up and rushing to the shower. She had overslept, and it was only her second day at work. She rushed down to the office and made it just in time. Rosie said good morning and Claire got to work.

Around 11:30am, a few minutes before her lunch break, Nick walked inside the law office and flashed Claire a big smile. He was holding a bouquet of daisies, and this time, they weren't dead.

Claire smiled and Rosie smiled and shooed her away to go to lunch with Nick. She thanked Rosie before taking off the headphones, and grabbing her purse.

"Hey..." he said kissing her lightly and handing her the flowers.

"Hi, how has your day been?" she asked taking the flowers and smelling them.

"Actually, I just woke up. I was more exhausted than I thought." he said.

Claire laughed at him as they strolled down the sidewalks of the center of town. They kept walking until Claire spotted a little Italian restaurant. They walked up the hostess and she asked how many.

"Two." Nick said.

The hostess smiled flirtatiously at Nick and Claire poked his side and laughed. They got seated outside at a little table with an umbrella up, blocking the brightness of the sun. Their waiter came over and handed them menu's before hurriedly scurrying off.

"Want a suggestion for lunch?" Nick asked with a smirk.

Claire placed down her menu to look at him, "Last time I did that at an Italian restaurant, I ended up getting liver. This time, I am playing safe and getting spaghetti."

Nick laughed lightly and reached across the table to hold Claire's hand. She looked over his shoulder and saw the hostess shooting her a dirty look.

"Looks like your little girlfriend over there doesn't like me." she laughed lightly.

"The hostess?" Nick asked.

Claire nodded, "Yeah. And the worst of it, is I bet she has one of those 'named after a food' names. You know, Candi, Tootsie ... Ding Dong."

Nick started laughing, "Someone's jealous." he said in a singsong voice.

Claire put her hand over her heart, "Moi? Never..."

Nick just took a sip of his drink and put it down. He looked out to the street and saw a girl who was dressed in jeans, a tank top and a jean jacket. She had on sunglasses, so Nick couldn't see her face clearly. However, she looked strangely familiar, but different. The girl was standing near a taxi, yelling at the driver for taking a wrong turn and wasting her money. Nick laughed as she threw money as the cabbie and stormed away. Claire looked over to where Nick was staring and she glanced at the girl. She took a harder look and realized who it was.

"Angie!" Claire hollered, making her get a few rude stares from other people at the restaurant.

Angie jogged across the street and walked over to Nick and Claire.

"Don't you just love cab drivers?!" she said sarcastically, pushing her sunglasses to the top of her head.

Nick laughed, "Want to join us for lunch?"

"No thanks, I am in a hurry. I have to deliver something for Aj before noon. So here I am running around the city and his lazy ass is in bed. I deserve some sort of award..." she sighed.

Claire smiled, "You sure you don't even want a coffee or anything?"

"Positive." Angie said looking away then looking back to them.

"What's with the bimbo giving the death stares over there?" Angie asked.

"The hostess?" Claire asked.

Angie nodded and Nick just sighed as Claire began to complain about the food named hostess again.
