As she listened to the client, she gazed at the clock and saw it was 2:59pm, meaning after this call, she could go home.
"I would like to cancel an appointment I have with the lawyer. It's at 7pm on Tuesday." the man said.
Claire went through the computer and did so, said goodbye, and hung up. She took her phone off and logged off of the computer. She said goodbye to Rosie before leaving and driving home.
When she stepped inside her apartment, the phone began to rang. She sighed and looked at the caller id, seeing it was her mother. She let the phone ring and when the answering machine picked up Claire listened as she took off her high heels and nylons.
"Hi hunny, it's Mom. I was just calling to see how your new job is going I will call you back. I love you..." the message said.
Once it clicked off, Claire took the phone off the receiver and rubbed her temples tiredly. She went over to her CD collection, and picked out the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack. She put it on softly before going into the bathroom and taking a warm bath.
She rested her head on the back of the tub as the soft music of the old songs from the CD poured through her apartment. She smiled and relaxed, letting the water warm her up. An hour later, she got out of the tub and pulled on a bathrobe. She went into the kitchen, made herself a cup of tea and got herself a muffin. Madeline curled up on the couch with her as Claire sat down with her new book.
Two hours later, Claire was waken up from the nap that she had slipped into. Someone was pounding furiously on the door. Claire moved a napping Madeline from her lap and got up with a yawn. She tightened the belt of her robe and yawned before she opened the door.
Immediately she was pulled into a tight hug and got a million kisses on her face. She put her hands against the person's chest and pushed them back. She looked up to see Nick looking frantic.
"Jesus Nick, you practically smothered me to death. What's the deal?" she said readjusting her robe.
"God, I thought something happened to you!" he said sounding a little out of breath.
Claire looked at him a little skeptically and waited for him to explain further.
"I called you a few times and I thought the phone was just busy. Then Angie called you and she said it was off the hook. So she called your cell phone, and you didn't answer that either. So I came over here to see what was up and I have been pounding on the door for 30 minutes. My god, I thought someone had broken in or something. My heart, it just, stopped..." Nick said quickly.
Claire's face softened and she pulled Nick inside her apartment and began kissing him lovingly. He put his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him.
Claire pulled back from Nick's kissed and hugged him tightly to make him feel secure.
"I was just relaxing and I took the phone off the hook. You don't ever have to worry about me like that. I promise to not let in strangers or anything Dad!" she laughed.
Nick's face remained serious, "Claire, I just worry about you sometimes. You know, little girl in the big city."
Claire kissed his lips delicately and smiled, "I am not a little girl, but thank you for worrying."
Nick smiled and she started to walk towards her room and Nick asked her where she was going.
"I have to get dressed." she said.
"You mean you have nothing under that robe?" he asked with a smirk.
She bit her lip, "Nothing at all." she said before walking away.
"I wish I had known that before!" Nick called to her, making her laugh.
A few minutes later, Claire came out in adidas swish pants and a comfy sweatshirt. She plopped down next to Nick on the couch and asked him if he had any plans for tonight.
"Not really." he said.
"Well, I am going to make you dinner then!" she smiled.
Nick laughed and just kissed her cheek as she got up to get some recipes.
Over at Aj's house, Angie got back from delivering the letter and Aj was still sleeping. She sighed and smacked his head as she walked by. He sat woke up suddenly, standing straight up.
"What? What is wrong?" he asked.
"Oh nothing at all. You have been sleeping like a baby while I run around the city getting ripped off by cabbie's, almost run over by buses and almost getting splashed by a puddle of mud. Now what on earth could make you think something is wrong?" she asked.
"God Ang, don't have such a bad attitude!" Aj said grumpily getting up.
"Have a bad attitude? Am I supposed to be Sally Sunshine when I run around like your maid?!" she yelled.
"Whatever Angie, throw one of your little fits, I don't care." he said coldly.
"Screw you Aj!" she shouted before storming out of his apartment and slamming the door.
He laid back down on the couch and rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on, "What a way to start the day."
