Chapter 9

Claire finished getting ready for the wedding and looked at herself in the mirror. She had on a light yellow and blue floor length sundress and she had curled her hair and put it into a french twist. She grabbed her coat and headed out onto her balcony.

She looked over the railing and saw Nick walking into her apartment. She closed the balcony doors and grabbed her purse. She walked to the door and opened it just as Nick was about to ring the doorbell.

Claire looked Nick over, and he looked very handsome. He had on a suit, with a lot of blue color to it. He stood there with a small bouquet of pastel colored tulips.

"You look beautiful." he said kissing her cheek and handing her the flowers.

"Aww, thank you Nick, that's really sweet of you. You look very handsome." she smiled.

She walked into her kitchen and put the flowers in a vase. Then she turned and flashed him a smile.

"Shall we?" he asked.

Claire nodded and hooked arms with him as they left her apartment. They walked out to his car and started driving towards the wedding. Some Journey song came on and Nick turned the radio up so it was really loud. He sang along and drummed his fingers on his steering wheel. Claire looked at him out of the corner of her eye and just started laughing.

Nick blushed a little and lowered the radio, "Someday I will catch you doing something embarrassing..."

Claire looked at him skeptically and just looked out to the road in front of her. After the song ended Claire changed the station and her favorite song came on.

"When I've shown you that I just don't care ... when I'm throwing punches in the air ... when I'm broken down and I can't stand ... will you be man enough to be my man?" she sang along.

Nick looked over and smiled at her, he really loved spending time around her. They soon got to the wedding and Nick took Claire's hand as they rushed to the event. They got there and sat down with Nick's family.

Nick leaned over to his mom, "Mom, this is Claire." he whispered.

Jane leaned in front of Nick and smiled, "Hi, I'm Jane. It's nice to meet you."

"I'm Claire, it's nice to meet you too." she said with a smile.

The ceremony started and soon most people there, were sniffling. Claire had never seen such a beautiful wedding and she was happy she was there. After the wedding was over, all the guests drove to the place where the reception was going to be.

It was a beautiful old Victorian and the guests entered through a side gate. You had to go under a trellis and you walked into a garden that looked like it was from the movies. Claire was amazed by the place and was gazing around in awe, when she felt Nick walk up beside her.

"Isn't it beautiful here?" he said, sounding sincere.

"Yeah, I was just thinking that." she said looking at him, "I am glad I am here with you."

Nick smiled and grabbed her hand, "Come on, I have a few people I want you to meet."

Claire walked off with Nick and began meeting his relatives, who were all nice people. Claire noticed how everyone in Nick's family looked alike somewhat, they all had at least one feature that resembled someone.

"Auntie, I want you to meet my friend, Claire." Nick said.

Claire shook the woman's hand and smiled, "It's nice to meet you."

"Oh and you too! It's nice to see my Nicky with a woman again." she said.

Claire laughed as Nick blushed a little and slowly brought Claire away from the relatives.

"Why Nick Carter! Afraid to have me meet your family?" she said with a smirk.

"No, I'm afraid of my family and what embarrassing things will pop out of their mouths, about me." he said.

Claire smiled and they both went off to get a glass of champagne for the toast. After the toast was made and the dinner was served, it started getting dark out. Lights all around the garden were lit, giving off a romantic feel to the night. Nick got up out of his seat and extended a hand towards Claire.

"Can I have this dance?" he asked formally.

"Yes, you may." she said putting her hand in his and standing up.

They walked out to the area where everyone was dancing and Nick placed his hands on her sides and she wrapped her arms around his neck. 'Strong Enough' by Sheryl Crow came on and Claire and Nick smiled at each other, because it was the song that had played earlier in the car, Claire's favorite.

God, I feel like hell tonight
Tears of rage I cannot fight
I'd be the last to help you understand
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Nothing's true and nothing's right
So let me be alone tonight
Cause you can't change the way I am
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I'll believe
Lie to me
But please don't leave

I have a face I cannot show
I make the rules up as I go
So try and love me if you can
Are you strong enough to be my man?

When I've shown you that I just don't care
When I'm throwing punches in the air
When I'm broken down and I can't stand
Will you be man enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I'll believe
Lie to me
But please don't leave

Nick and Claire swayed to the music as she sang it quietly. At the end of the dance, Nick kissed her cheek and thanked her for the dance. They were about to dance again, when some of Nick's relatives called Claire over to talk. Nick was called over to where his mother and two of his aunts were standing.

"So, do you love this girl?" his aunt asked him.

Nick laughed and looked at his aunt, "We aren't dating. But, I love everything about her."

Nick gazed over to where Claire was talking and occasionally smiling with his family. Nick thought to himself how beautiful she looked in her outfit and the lighting, and to him, she was just majestic. She looked over to Nick and smiled as their eyes met.

"Yeah, I love her." Nick said.
