NSA Tour: May 9, 2000

I’m going to start by warning you if you want to wait until your concert to know what happens, don’t read any further. This is really detailed, I actually sat in there with a pen and paper writing stuff down.

Second, I want to say that with all the hype they put into this tour, it’s not all that great. It’s more of a “show” than a concert, and a lot of the “show” type things are aimed towards little kids. If you are an older fan, you probably won’t appreciate it all that much. But, the dance moves, music, and lighting are pretty cool. Ok, here goes…

As far as opening acts, we had Ron Irrizary and Sisqo. Pink was not there. The first funny thing about the show was that when Stever (Fatone) was introducing Sisqo, the stage wasn't ready yet so he had to stand on stage for like 15 minutes and talk to the crowd... not a good idea. Imagine Joey only 3 times dumber. Some of his finest moments were:

Steve: Was anyone to any of the shows on the last tour?
Crowd: (Scream)
Steve: Well, forget everything you saw cuz this is like 150 billion times better.

The way he says “150 billion” is freaking hilarious!

Another fine Stever moment:

Steve: Well, this is the point where I have absolutely nothing to say, so someone tell me what to do
Someone In Crowd: Sing!
Steve: No.. (while shaking his head yes.

- Anyway -

Sisqo came out, and I hate to say it cuz I really like him, but he wasn’t that great. He was really entertaining, as far as him and his dancers were concerned, but for a lot of the songs he only sang like ½ and the rest was voiced over. His best song was ”Got to Get it” even though a lot was cut out (I guess you can’t say “I Like To Fuck” at an NSYNC concert… lol) I Also think by the end of the tour, more than a few parents are going to complain about the “Thong Song” because of the fact that at the end 6 girls come out in bras, thongs, and way small skirts and start shaking their asses and freaking on Sisqo. Oh, another thing, he has 2 smoking dragons on the stage, but one was broke.. hehe..

All right, on to NSYNC. First off, it’s not like last tour with the Mission Impossible opening that takes forever, as soon as the lights go down, the show starts. Before I even get into the show here’s a warning: Some of the show is just DUMB. I mean really dumb, the outfits suck, and I literally cried three times. ..

No Strings Attached - This was the first time I cried, I am deathly afraid of puppets, and I HATE them. As soon as the lights go out it starts playing that “There are no strings to hold me down… “ and then the guys drop from the stage quickly, dressed as cowboy-type puppets. FRIGHTENING I tell ya! The dance to this song is pretty corny in my opinion.

I Want You Back - I was so pissed they did this song 2nd! It was a little different than last tour, a lot of the little “Justyisms” were taken out, and they spread it out a little more because the stage is WAY huge.

- Lance came out and made a speech, but I can’t remember what the hell it was about -

God Must Have Spent.. I got even more mad when they did this next, I HATE this song! I can’t believe they did it again. One cool part is in the last verse, they all stand next to each other on the right side of the stage and the stage has a moving sidewalk type deal in it that moves them over to the left. Justin does NOT hold the ending, thank god. .. and they were pretty off key.

This next part was SO dumb. Ananda Lewis pops up on the screen and welcomes you to “TNL” She tells the crowd that “your vote will pick the next song NSYNC sings” and to “scream for the song you want to hear” Then she says the songs are:
A: Yankee Doodle
B: Three Blind Mice
C: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
D: Tearin Up My Heart
Gee, which one do ya think they sing next???

Tearin Up My Heart - The guys come out in their 2nd outfits, (which include white shirts, all with a different color front design,  Lance is green, JC is reddish-brown, can’t remember anyone else) and the shirts have lights on them.. Niiiiiiiice.

So, by this time I’m really aggravated. I HATE Tearin Up My Heart and God Must Have Spent, and I’m not too fascinated with I Drive Myself Crazy, but I knew they were going to sing that too because we heard it earlier that day when they were doing soundcheck. I swear, I was getting ready to leave and what came next almost had me running for the exit. ..

Justin (whose hair IS in braids, although he chose every hair accessory imaginable to cover them up.. except a turban) he comes out and does a “beat box battle” with Bam Bam Billy.. (the drummer) For like 10 freaking minutes!!! It wouldn’t be that bad if he was in a beater and thrusting like on the old-old tour.. but NO, he’s in khakis and a print shirt. All the next outfits are pretty much plain like that.

It’s Gonna Be Me - Nothing real special about this, a funny thing though is in the dance they do the “ring around the hitler” move like in I Want You Back.

I Drive Myself Crazy - They convert the stage into a “living room scene” including a couch, easy chairs, and a lamp. It’s so dumb. Chris gives a speech (grrr) and they sing the song. JC does NOT invisible orchestra ! But, they sing a fast version which is pretty cool.

- Justin does a speech about how they are going to sing the 1st song they ever learned together -

I Thought She Knew - This would be the 2nd time I cried, but only because Joey sounds so beautiful in his solo (Yeah, I’m a dork.. whatever) It was awesome though because the crowd went So nuts for him, it was almost like when Lance says “Girl Were You Alone”.. not that I would know, but so I’ve heard. (I HATE YOU RICH)

- The next thing takes the cake for the absolute dumbest, random thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. It was a video segment that starts off with the guys going backstage to get changed, they open the door and they are in a circus, complete with scary circus music. All I remember from this part of the video is Asswipé (I love him!), Joey dumps popcorn on his head, a camel, JC is playing pool, it’s dumb. Then, Joey, JC, Chris, and Justin sit down to watch TV, and flip to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Lance is playing for $1,000,000. Regis asks a Pokémon question, Lance is all “I don’t know, I’ll phone a friend” He calls all the guys, they argue over the answer so Lance decides to “Poll the audience” Justin gets up and tells the crowd to “cheer really loud for the right answer so Lance wins $1,000,000” and puts his pinky up to his mouth like Dr. Evil in Austin Powers.. DORK. It made me the most mad because it implies all their fans are young, and therefore would know Pokémon.. um… NO. Oh, during the TV segment, JC wipes his nose like 4 times.. lol. Cracknuts. Anyway, Lance gets the question right and on the screen Mamma Bass is there congratulating him (She’s so cute!) Of course, they go into

Just Got Paid - The stage setup for this is a “klub” (they spell it with a “K”, I dunno why.. but I didn’t typo) with a bouncer (Lonnie) standing at the door. In the beginning there’s confetti like Celebration, except it’s only green, white, and silver. The dance is a lot of foot movement (think NKOTB The Right Stuff) During Justy and Chris’s rap, watch Joey.. he tries to get in the Klub, and Lonnie knocks him on his ass.. lol. I don’t know if they’ll do that at every show though. Halfway through the song, the music stops and the guys try to get in the club. OMG, it’s so scary.. JC is all “Check the list for JC!!!!” and they show this big scary JC face on the screen. I screamed. Then they ask if “NSYNC is on the list” and the doors open, there’s like 10 audience chicks in there, and it’s funny.. Joey like jumps in there and disappears in the crowd for a few minutes.. lol. Oh, when JC says “I’m gonna have me a fucking good time” they cut it out, it just says “I’m gonna have me a……. time”

- This next part made me cry for the 3rd time. OMG, I still don’t get the point. This HUGE scary hologram clown face pops up in the middle of the stage. It’s eyes and mouth move and it starts talking. All the while, there is scary circus music playing. Then (like it can get any worse) it morphs into a frigging Jason mask (Friday the 13th hockey gaolie type deal) OMG WTF. I was so scared and disturbed by this.

Space Cowboy - Outfits change, Lance has on leather pants (YUM!) and a turquoise leather tank top (YUCK) JC’s got a wacked out silver shirt on, and JuJu’s in some sparkly jean type thing. Uck. BUT, this dance kicks major ass. OMG. I love it. You’ve got thrusts, booty shaking, hip dislocation, cowboy things. Yeah, I like it. They cut out Left Eye and do a dance break, and in the one part they do a move where they push their hand down in front of them like they are pushing on someone’s head. (dirty as it sounds, it’s true, and Justy looks like he’s had some practice with that move.. ) At the end they drop through a whole in the back of the stage. I used to HATE this song, but it’s moved WAAAAAY up because of the dance.

It Makes Me Ill - The guys come out in hospital gowns (again, WTF?) wheeling Justin on a stretcher, and “shock” him back to life. (He’s dead.. lol) They dance the song in the hospital gowns, and Joey has a hospital hairnet thing on his head. The end is pretty cool, they all fall down as if they are dying.

- JC gives a speech about wanting to be “closer” to the audience, they move to the front of the stage and it lifts up about 10 feet, and then slowly goes out until it reaches the middle of the arena. While it’s moving they sing This I Promise You I really think one of them is going to fall off it by the end of the tour, Joey came really freaking close.. and at the end, Justin holds the last note for a little bit. The only thing bad about the moving stage, is there is no such thing as center seats. The moving stage cuts a good 300 floor seats out of the arena.

Digital Getdown - The outfits for this are kinda crunk, they are baby blue and silver and they glow in the dark. (Joey looks way huge though the way the colors are patterned on his, my first thought was a big baby blue Captain America reject.. sorry Joe.. but my second thought was WOW, he’s HOT.) During Justin’s breakdown, the other 4 go onto the sliding stage, and the lights go out so all you see is their glow in the dark asses shaking across the stage. Also in the break, they cut out Justin saying “Nasty, Nasty, Freaky, Freaky” which just sucks.

Finally, the screen turns to a sunset type thing, the guys come walking from the top of the stage dressed as monks?? They rip the robes off, sing Bye Bye Bye and that’s the end of the concert. The End. If you are interested in purchasing an audio cassette of this concert (with Bye Bye Bye live from the American Music Awards included) go here for details.
