He shook his head.
I sat down next to him. “I’m not leaving until you tell me what's going on and I have to be dancing in half an hour so I suggest you start talking.” I said.
He sighed and reluctantly began to talk. “I asked Jessie out.” He said.
“So I heard. She called me.” I said.
“She said no.” he finished.
‘He must really like her. He hardly knows her, yet he is CRYING because she rejected him.’ I thought to myself. I spent a few minutes debating with myself, then I opened my mouth to speak. “I have a lot to tell you, but you hafta promise not to tell Jessie you know. If she ever found out that I told you, she’d kill me. And personally, I’d like to live to see my next birthday.” I said.
Nick looked up. He had a slight hint of a smile on his lips. The sight of his red puffy eyes almost made ME cry.
“I promise.” He said softly.
I sighed. ‘Here we go.’ I thought to myself. “Okay, well, about six years ago, when Jessie was about 14, she had a huge crush on this guy, Devon. She even asked him out a few times, but every time, he would reject her. Well, two years later, when she was 16, after she thought that she was finally over him, he called her and asked her out. They also went to the junior prom together. A few weeks later, she overheard him and his friends talking. They had all bet him $25 each to go out with her. She was heartbroken.”
Nick had a shocked expression on his face. “But she told me that she had never had a boyfriend.” He said.
“If you were her would you want to admit to that relationship? She has rejected every guy since then. Even if she loved them back…like you.” I concluded.
“If I had known that about 2 hours ago I wouldn’t have asked her out.” He said.
“If only there was a way to show her that you really do like her.” I thought out loud.
When I said that, Nicks eyes grew wide and he got a sly grin on his face.
“What? What?!” I yelled out of sheer curiosity of what he was thinking about.
