Melody got up early the next morning. She wanted to do a few things before she went to church. She had to go to the store to get supplies for that night. Melody also wanted to get that CD she had made the note about.
She got dressed in her church cloths, she knew she wouldn't have a chance to change when she got back to the house. She quickly put on her white blouse and long, baby blue skirt. Melody grabbed her keys and crept to the door, making sure not to wake up her parents.
In the car, Melody rolled down all the windows. She let the warm air blow on her as she drove to the local grocery store, Drake's. She pulled into a parking spot right in front of the store. Melody slid out of the car, and casually walked into the store.
"Hey babe!" Melody heard someone call. She turned to see her friend, Chris, waving at her from behind a checkout counter.
"Hey ugly!" She yelled back, laughing. Melody walked over to where he was standing.
"I resent that, I'm not ugly, just stupid," he told her, giving her a hug.
"Oh yeah, I forgot."
"What's up? You usually don't come here. Did you get grounded again, and now have to do all the chores?" he joked. Melody grinned, and shook her head. "Oh, I see. You gotta date, don't ya, don't cha!"
"Maybe."
"I knew it! So, who is the lucky guy?"
"His name is Aj. He is really sweet, and pretty good looking."
"Better than me?"
"Your ugly, remember."
"Oh yeah."
"You know I love you Chris, but I don't have much time to talk. I see you later."
"Okay, bye D," he said, turning back to the customers in line. Melody sighed; I'll miss joking with Chris, hearing him calling me D. Melody hated being called D, but right now she didn't care what he called her. Melody searched the store until she found what she needed. French bread, cheese, meat, and anything else she needed to make her famous lasagna. After quickly paying for her items, she rushed back to her car.
The next stop was the mall. Melody took out the small piece of paper she had shoved in her purse. Millennium, Backstreet Boys, was written on the paper. She hurried down the mall to the Sam Goodies. She was sure they would have it, they had every CD. Melody looked at the huge store. I'll never find it on my own, she thought.
"Excuse me," she said to a boy working in the store, "could you help my find a CD."
"Sure, what are you looking for?" he asked.
"It's a CD called Millennium…"
"The Backstreet Boys, yes we have that. Look behind you," he laughed. Melody didn't get why he was laughing until she turned around and looked at the wall.
"Oh, thank you," she murmured, staring at the wall. The wall was covered with CD's, shirts, and other merchandise from the group. Melody stumbled towards the wall, shocked.
"Aj?" she whispered to herself. She looked at all the pictures of him, and the other guys she had met at the restaurant.
"They are pretty cute aren't they?" a lady said, walking up behind her, "My daughter absolutely worships them. It's really no surprise they've sold millions of albums, they are good looking and talented. I really like them myself." The lady picked up a t-shirt and smiled at Melody before heading to the counter to pay for the shirt.
"Aj's going to get more of a surprise than he expected." She said to herself. Melody grabbed a Millennium CD and a black, Backstreet Boys, tank top. They had a tank top with each of the boys' name on the back. Melody made sure she grabbed the one that said 'I Love AJ' on the back.
She roamed around the store a little while before paying for her things. The boy who had told her where the CD was rang her up, smiling at what she had bought.
"Thanks," called back, leaving Sam Goodies. Melody sped home so she wouldn't be late for church. When she pulled into the driveway her parents had just stepped out of the house.
"We were about to leave you. We should have," her mom said, peevishly. She put her hands on her hips waiting for an explanation.
"I'm sorry, I left early to go do some shopping, I guess I didn't leave early enough. I'm sorry, I'm here now," she explained. Her mom just shook her head. Melody got out of her car and followed her parents to theirs. Melody stared out the window, planning on what to do that night. I think I should play a little joke on Aj, she thought.
Church went by really fast. Melody soaked up everything that was being said. She felt like she belonged in church more than ever, but she couldn't shake the uneasy feeling and chills she kept getting. Finally, she was back home, and the uneasy feeling had gone away. Melody picked up the phone to call Aj.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Hey Aj, this is Melody," she said.
"How are you?"
"I'm fine."
"That's good," he said, then paused a second, "I got your note."
"So, are we on for tonight?"
"Definitely."
"8:00, meet me at Eagles Cove. You know where that is, right?"
"Uh-huh."
"Okay, see you then. Bye Aj."
"Bye Melody."
Melody hung up the phone and grinned. Tonight is
going to be…interesting, she thought.
