Chapter 10
***** Belgium, July 1998 *****
I was sitting in the living room, looking at some photos I took at a local festival, I was gonna send them to a newspaper, hoping they would let me do some work for them. I really needed the money and the experience. I was planning on moving out of my parents place, I needed a place for my own, I needed my freedom. I knew I was gonna miss Jude like crazy, but I was 22 years old, and needed to be on my own feet.
I was making a selection and looking at some older work when the phone rang. "Hello, Elka Russo speaking" I said without taking my eyes awway from the photos spread over the table "Hey baby, how are you" Kevin said "Kevin! Hi, I'm ok, you?" I asked, it had been a while, they were very busy and things were going great.
"I'm good, how's jude?" He asked "Great, she's out with some new friends she made in uni." "Oh, that's cool ... Baby? ..." "Yeah?" "Do you remember the conversation we had the night we met?" he asked "yes I do, why?" I was starting to wonder what was wrong "Then you still remember I said that we would perform a song together the first time we would give a show in New York ..." "Yes I do, you were joking rigth?" "No I wasn't, we're performing in NY next month, and I'd like it if we played a song together. Will you come to NY with me?" he asked, and I knew he was smiling now "Oh, baby, are you serious? I mean, I'd love to come to NY with you and see you again, but I don't think it's such a good idea of us being on the same stage, what would the fans say and the press ... ?"
I wasn't sure about it, and of course I'd love to play in NY but I knew that the fans would figure out I'm his girlfriend. And I wasn't sure he would be ready for that. "I don't care what they think, I just want you on that stage with me. I'll tell them you're a friend of ours we met in Europe and if they don't buy it that'll be bad luck, I want you there, and a promis is a promiss ..."
"I'd love to, but did you ask Donna?" I asked him "Yes I did, and she thought it was a great idea, but she'd want you to come over next week, so that we can rehearse, and so that we could spent some quality time together." he said that last one chuckling "Oh I see, so that we could spend some quality time ... and that quality time would be spend in a hotel room?" I asked "You could stay at my place, I'll have it cleaned up and ... I have this new waterbed. Maybe you'd wanna test it ..." he said chuckling.
"I'd love to spend some quality time with you in your waterbed, consider it a deal." I chuckled "If you could just have Donna call my parents ... Oh, would you mind if I took some work with me, because I'm really busy and those photos can't wait." I said "No, I don't mind ... as long as you don't want me to pose for another nude session for class ..." he said in a sexy voice "well, maybe not for class, but for me??" I asked him "yeah, we'll see about that" he said laughing.
"Would Jude be able to join you? I guess Nick would like that, so would the rest of us." "Yeah, I guess, we were supposed to come over in August anyway, we both have a school holliday for 3 months, and I don't think my dad'll say no. But just in case make sure Donna calls him." "I will, I'll talk to you before you come, ok?" "Yeah, ok, I love you, see you next week, say hi to the fellas" "I will, love ya, bye" and we both hung up the phone.
God, I can't believe I'll be performing with Kevin. I hope the fans won't blame me. I have to call Jude. I picked up the phone and dialed Jude's cellphone number. "Hi?" "Hey Jude, Elka here, Kevin just called. He asked us to come over next week instead of next moth. We're goin to NY with them." I said almost yelling form joy "What, you kidding???" she cried out
"No I'm not, Donna's gonna call dad, and if he lets us, we'd be seeing them for 2 months!" I shrieked "Oh, that's so great, I have to call Nick, did you talk to Nick, does he know?" "I don't know, I didn't talk to him but wait untill you're home to call him, you know with your friends being there, they can't know about us knowing the guys ..." "Oh, yeah, ok I'll call him when I get home" "ok, see ya later, bye" "bye El" and we hung up.
Man, this is so great, we'de be spending 2 months in the US. I'd see Kev's place, maybe meet his mom and his brother. We'd be together a full 2 moths, don't think that has ever happened ... Maybe I could get Jude and Nick together ... gotta work on that one for sure ... Oh man, I so hope dad lets us go ...
Two days later I was watching TV when the phone rang. "Hello, Elka Russo speaking" I said when I picked up the phone and putting the TV in mute. "Hi Elka love, it's Donna Wright, how are you?" "Hey Donna, I'm great thanks, how are you and the guys?" "We're all great, can't wait to see you two again, is your dad around, Kevin asked me to call him." Donna asked "Yeah sure, I'll get him, he's right here" "Papa, telephone pour toi, c'est Donna, la manager de Kevin" ((translation: dad, it's for you, it's Donna, Kevin's manager))
I said when I handed him the phone, he took it and got up of the seat and took the phone into the kitchen. I heard little parts of the conversation "Yes, I'm Marco Russo ... yes ... I see ... and they'd be staying in a hotel? ... oh ok, no that's not a problem ... I know Kevin, I trust him ... yes ... so they leave on saturday ... no, it's ok, I'll pay and then you can give Elka a check for the tickets ... that sounds good ... yes ... yes of course I will miss them, but there always is the phone, and they'll only be gone for 2 moths ... yeah, you're right ... ok, that's setteled then ... I'll tell her ... ok, talk to you later ... bye."
He hung up and walked over to the living room again, I quickly turned off the mute and pretended to be watching MTV, so he wouldn't think I'd be listening in on his conversation. He entered the room and I looked at him "So, what did she say?" I asked him "She asked if I was ok with you girls going over to Florida for the next two months and travel with them to New York. I told her I was ok with it. You guys have a flight this saturday and I'll pay for the tickets in advance, and Donna'll write you a check for them when you get there. She told me you were staying with Kevin, and I told her that I trust him, I also trust you to care of your sister. You are responsible for her the whole time you are there, so look out for her, ok?" He said all of that smiling, except the last sentence, that was more of a serious part.
I nodded and huged him "I love you dad, you're the best" "I know you do, I hope you have a great time" He said hugging me back.
