Chapter 13

A few weeks passed and things went back to normal… well as normal as they could. Things between Brian and AJ were still a little edgy but they still managed to be civil towards one another in order to get the job done. The fight between them wasn’t mentioned but the tension still hung in the air. Especially between Kevin and Brian.

When Brian got home that night he immediately called his mother. They talked for over two hours and she confessed the whole thing as she cried. Brian couldn’t stay mad at her; she was his mother for God sake. Besides it wasn’t her who decided it was in Brian’s best interest. That was all Kevin. To say that Brian was a little bitter with his cousin for his actions would be an understatement. He was absolutely furious with Kevin for his actions and he made sure the older man knew it every chance he got. Kevin tried to apologize every chance he got but Brian would not accept it.

The group arrived to northern California three days ago to start recording their new album. The studio was located in a secluded area in the woods near Yellowstone national park and the band, producers, and writers stayed in the house it was located in. Around the studio were six smaller cabins so that each guy had their own for them and their guest and the last one was left for the couple bodyguards they brought with them just in case any fans caught on to where they were. Mostly everyone had been there the last few days, but Felicity arrived just the night before. AJ was beside himself waiting for her, the couple hadn’t seen each other for weeks. The other guys teased him saying how glad they were that they all had separate cabins, except for Brian.

Since he found out about what happened, Brian had many questions about what happened to Felicity. He wanted to know why she did what she did, if he had anything to do with it. According to AJ he did. It was all Brian’s fault and he felt incredibly guilty. The night he found out he didn’t sleep at all, he tossed and turned all night trying to figure out what went wrong. When he finally fell asleep the next morning his dreams were filled with images of Felicity lying in a pool of her own blood. The dreams scared him so much he had trouble sleeping again for the next few nights. But the thought of what happened wouldn’t leave his mind. He had to talk to her.

It was two o’clock in the afternoon and Brian stood in front of AJ and Felicity’s cabin, a little hesitant on whether or not to knock. AJ was at the studio recording and wouldn’t get out for another hour or two. This gave Brian the perfect opportunity to talk to Felicity. He hesitantly knocked on the door and waited for a response.

Felicity was dancing around the living room to the sounds of the Beatles when she heard the knock at the door. “Who the hell could that be?” she said out loud. She turned down the radio and quickly threw on a sweatshirt to cover her barely there wife beater she was wearing. She opened up the door before even looking through the peephole.

As soon as Felicity saw who was on the other side of the door her smile dropped to a frown. She knew she would have to face him eventually but wasn’t prepared for it at the time being. Her hand came very close to slamming the door in his face, but she knew that was the wrong thing to do. She repeated the words her psychiatrist had told her to say in her head when they once again came face-to-face. ‘You can’t hurt me. I have a new love now and you no longer matter,’ she repeated to herself but for some reason it did not seem to help. The two of them stared at each other for a long while before Brian broke the silence.

“Hey,” he said rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

“Alex isn’t here,” Felicity quickly stated, her tone harsh and spiteful.

Brian sighed and ran his hands through his hair. “I know,” he said softly. “I kinda… umm… came here to talk to you.”

“I don’t think that is a good idea,” Felicity said shutting the door. Brian put his hand in the way preventing her from doing so.

“Please, this is important,” Brian pleaded.

“I don’t think anything you have to say to me is that important,” Felicity argued.

“Look, we need to learn to get along, if for nothing else than for AJ.”

Felicity sighed and opened to door. He was right. Brian was a big part of AJ’s life and if she planned on staying with him she needed to accept that and at least try to get along with him. She opened the door so that he could get in and made her way to the couch.

Brian walked in and shut the door behind. He watched as Felicity sat down on the couch and pulled her knees up to her chest. Brian followed suit and sat down on a chair next to the couch. There was a long awkward silence, both of them trying to figure out what to say.

“You wanted to talk, so talk,” Felicity said quietly.

Brian ran his hand through his hair and sighed. “I just wanted to…. Umm… apologize I guess,” Brian said. He looked at felicity for some kind of response but she remained silent. “I know what I did was stupid and selfish. I mean I was young… and stupid. I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t realize what I was doing was going to hurt you so much.”

“How could you not think that you were going to hurt me?” Felicity said standing up and walking to the window. “You left me without a goodbye. Just try to put yourself in my shoes. I loved you Brian, and I thought you loved me back. But all the sudden I wasn’t important enough to you that you would tell me you were leaving. It hurt Brian. It hurt a lot.”

“I’m sorry Felicity, you have believe me. If I would of known what happened after I left I would have never…” Brian started but Felicity turned around and cut him off.

“What do you mean what happened after you left?”

Brian ran his hand through his hair and bit his lip. “AJ and I got into an argument a few weeks ago and… well… he said some stuff.”

“Some stuff?” Felicity asked confused.

“He said that you tried to break up with him because of me, that you couldn’t even stand to be around me,” Brain said standing up.

“Well, that’s true. It was killing me to see you again. I was willing to throw away the best relationship I have ever had just so that I would never see you again.”

“Umm… yeah…” Brian said softly feeling a little hurt by her harsh words.

“He probably shouldn’t have told you that, but whatever!” Veronica said throwing up her hands.

“Well, that’s not all he said.”

“What do you mean? What else did he tell you?” Veronica asked confused.

“Maybe you should sit down,” Brian said softly.

“Hell no!” she screamed. “Just tell me!”

“Ok… umm…” Brian paused and let out a sigh. “He said that you… well… you tried to kill yourself.”

Veronica’s eyes widened and her hands went over her mouth. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. How could her Alex do that to her? He promised her that he would never say a word to him about that. She made it very clear to him that Brian was never to know about what happened.

“Honey I’m home.”

AJ walked through the door and sat his keys on a table next to the door. He was about to say something else when he noticed Brian sitting on the couch and Felicity standing with a look on her face he had never seen before. Her gaze turned towards AJ with a look on her face that he had never seen before. The look on her face was livid and he had a sneaking suspicion of what she was so furious about. AJ looked at Brian and saw the guilty look on his face that confirmed his suspicions.

“How could you?” Felicity said. Her voice was barely above a whisper but AJ could clearly hear her as well as the tone in her voice.

“Baby… look…” AJ started to explain but Felicity quickly cut him off.

“Don’t baby me,” she said, her voice louder this time. “I trusted you, I really did. Then you go behind my back and tell the one person the one thing that I never wanted him to know.”

“I’m sorry, but it just kind of came out,” AJ explained. “We were fighting and I just said it.”

“Don’t give me your lame excuses,” Felicity said as she walked past him to the door. She grabbed the keys he had just set down on the table and opened the door.

“Felicity, wait,” AJ said grabbing her arm lightly. “I’m sorry baby, I never meant to hurt you.”

Felicity was quite for a minute and then let out a sigh. AJ let go of her arm and she looked down. “I need some time to myself,” she said quietly before leaving the house. AJ watched as she walked to the rental car and got in. Then she left, hopefully not forever.

Brian sat still waiting for AJ to say something but he just continued to watch the spot where Felicity had drove off too. It was better that he wasn’t talking because Brian knew that once he started, he was in for it. AJ finally turned around and ran his hand through his hair. He had almost forgot Brian was there until he turned and saw him sitting on the couch.

“AJ, I am so sorry,” Brian quickly said. AJ nodded his head and silently moved to sit in the chair opposite him. After a few minutes of silence Brian once again spoke. “I know I shouldn’t have said anything, but I really needed to talk to her about it. It was….”

“I don’t care,” AJ interrupted. “I’m the one who fucked up. I’m the one who shouldn’t have said anything.”

“No, I’m glad you did,” Brian said. “I should have found out when it happened. It’s better than I know.”

“How is it better?” AJ almost yelled. “Felicity left! What if she never comes back? What If I loose her over this?”

AJ put his head in his hands and once again turned silent. Brian watched as he silently agonized over Felicity. He couldn’t help but feel guilty about everything that was going on. He had to fix it. Not just the trouble he caused between Felicity and AJ, but also between Felicity and himself. Brian quickly stood up and went to the door.

“Where you going?” AJ asked without looking up.

“To fix this,” Brian said before shutting the door behind him.
