“Yeah, yeah, coming,” Nick replied.
The Backstreet Boys had just released their first single, “We’ve Got it Goin On” in the states. It wasn’t very popular so they didn’t have many fans here yet. They were all in Texas on a trip Kevin had decided on, to get a break for the summer. Tonight they were going to check out a local country club to get a taste of country music. Nick and Brian decided to dress for the occasion and were in boots, jeans, t-shirts, and cowboy hats.
“What the heck happened to you?!” AJ yelled when he saw them, “You look like you raided Garth Brooks’ closet!”
“Hey, man, we just wanted to have a little fun and besides, lots of people will probably be wearing this stuff,” Brian explained.
“Yeah! Look at Kev!” Nick yelled. They all looked to see Kevin and Howie coming out of the elevator and Kevin was dressed in the same clothes as Brian and Nick.
“Just tell me why we are going to a country club?” AJ asked shuttering.
“Because, I know we want to go clubbin, but this is like the only one here and it’s Texas...it’s country,” Kevin explained.
“Yeah, whatever,” AJ said as they walked outside.
“Yo, Bone,” Howie began, “I heard country chicks look real good in those tight jeans!”
“Alright!” AJ yelled perking up. They all headed down the street to the club and got inside. They walked in to see many people and, as Brian said, most were dressed in cowboy hats and boots. They found a table and ordered drinks. The guys had gotton a couple offers to dance but they weren’t quite sure how to line dance so they had to say no.
“Hey guys, be right back, bathroom” Nick said leaving. On his way out of the bathroom he accidentally bumped into a girl, knocking her down.
“Oh! I’m so sorry!” he said helping her up. She laughed.
“It’s ok, it gets a little chaotic in here.” Nick couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she was. She had shoulder length brown hair curled at the ends, and blue eyes. She had on tight blue jeans and a sleeveless white shirt.
“Um...I’m Nick,” he said holding out his hand.
“Jessica, but most people just call me Jess,” she said accepting it.
“Well Jess, would you mind if I bought you a drink to apologize for knocking you down?”
“Oh, you don’t have to, Im fine---”
“Nope,” he cut her off, “I want to. Please let me.” She smiled and nodded. He took her hand and walked her over to the guys and introduced them. She didn’t seem shy at all and got into the conversation quickly.
After about twenty minutes, she said, “Oh gosh guys, I have to go do something right now but I’ll be back in a little bit, ok?” The guys nodded and watched her leave.
They talked amongst themselves when someone stepped on the small stage and said in the microphone, “How ya’ll doin?” Screams came from all over. “As most of you know, this is now kareoke session and we will start off with a few of our regulars. Ladies and gentleman, 17 year old Jessica Mathews!”
“Look Nicky, it’s your girlfriend!” AJ yelled.
“She’s not my girlfriend, AJ” Nick shot back.
“Shut up you guys, I wanna hear her!” Kevin scolded.
“Hey everbody! I’m gonna sing tonight one of my favorite songs. You all maybe remember this as the first song I sang on this stage. So here it is, Count Me In.” The lights dimmed and couples took the floor, as Jess began to sing:
To the same old story
Cause you're not the first to say
You're gonna be there for me
I need to know what's in your heart
Can you finish what you start
How can I be sure I won't be sorry
If heartaches and tears and shadows of doubt
Are part of the deal, you can count me out
But if you're talking about a game I can win
You can count me in
When you tell me you're the one
I've always needed
You don't know how much I'm wanting
To believe it
But I've heard it all before
Now I'm needing something more
A promise is no good if you can't keep it
If heartaches and tears and shadows of doubt
Are part of the deal, you can count me out
But if you're talking about a game I can win
You can count me in
