to Stuff like that
"My mom had a Howie sigthing this morning, and of course, I
wasn't there! (damnit!) It was by the pool (*kicks self*) He was
in one of the pools where there were less people around. A lot of
security was there. Angie, Adam, and these two little girls were
with him. Howie came out of the water and was holding hands
walking with one the little girls. A few mins later, they went
back to their rooms, so my mom didn't have enough time to come
and get me. I think I better stay
with my mom a little more, she seems to locate Howie better than
I do.
Today was the celberty auction. It was held in the Rome Lounge.
This place is the theater. There's a stage, with a balcony and
everything. I finally met up with some people I had been talking
to on the internet. One of which was a LD peeper (if you read
this, hey Jessica!) Anyway, we went in early to the auction. We
were right up front by the left of the stage. This event was open
for the whole ship. They set out a bunch of tables then set out
the items. Chelsea
and other DLF people were busy trying to set everything up. Adam
was in charge of this. He came out and got everything started.
They did the silent auction first. That lasted about 30 mins. I
went up and looked, but I don't have any money to bid on
anything. After it was done, Adam named off the winners. Then
they started the live auction, or whatever you call it. They
brought out a lot of signed baseball stuff. Those things didn't
go for very much. Poor Adam had a hard
time trying to get people to bid on them. They did some other
stuff.
They had a cruise to the Bahamas you could bid on. They had a
signed Faith Hill CD. Get this: they actually had a signed nsync
t-shirt. When they announced it, everyone said "ewwww".
It went for only $250 I think. Then they had a signed Britey
book. That went for only $100.
Then they had the soundtrack to the Jimmy Neutron movie. Adam
said he'd get Howie to sign it. Then Howie walks out! (I'm not
sure if was after that item, or another one) Anyway, everyone
went insane. He had on this orange shirt, kinda like the one he
had on MTV cribs. They brought out the Offical BSB book, and Adam
said Howie would sign it. They also gave out a jersey and vest
that he actually wore. Then Howie got to lead an auction. They
brought out a BSB book. It was the "On the Road with BSB
one". Howie was SO cute when he was calling off the bids.
Then they gave out a night to have dinner with Howie and the rest
of the Dorough's. This one went for SO much money. I can't even
remember how much it was. I think when they reached about $6,000,
Howie went over and whispered to Adam. Then Adam said "Howie
says he will cut your food and feed it to you". Then people
started going crazy and bidding. Then Adam said "I've seen
them eat, it's not pretty". I think this one went for the
most money. I actually know
the people that won it. I'll have to ask them how it went after
it happens. They auctioned off a hug from Howie. That even went
for a lot. They auctioned off a chance to sing any song karaoke
with Howie.
Then they auctioned off these homemade BSB pillow cases. Adam
described them saying "You can sleep with Howie every
night". Everyone screamed. The final auction was going on a
dolfin encounter with Howie in Jamica. Adam said, "Howie
will be wearing a bathing suit". Everyone screamed. Then
someone in the audience asked something. Then Adam replied,
"NO! He will not be wearing a thong!" Howie started
shaking his head. Then Adam said "well, maybe for an
extra 5 grand". Howie nodded his head in a way like
"yeah, maybe..." All of the things with Howie went for
a LOT of money. Sorry I wish I could remember how much. Adam was
hilarious! Howie was SO cute and funny! He had so many cute
reactions to Adam's jokes and stuff. So
even though I didn't bid on anything, it was obviously worth
being there. My friends and I kept trying to get Howie to look
over at us.
After calling him like 3 times we finally got him to wave. Also
got a wink out of him. It was SO much fun even though I didn't
bid on anything. A little tip to anyone that goes next year:
bring LOTS of money!

Despite running about an hour late, once the Olympic torch made
its way through Winter Park and downtown Orlando, Mildred
Wilkerson stood ready for her starring role.
With hundreds looking on, Wilkerson -- a 64-year-old neighborhood
leader and former school teacher -- grabbed the torch from
Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough before boarding a boat and looping
Lake Eola.
Lighting a 200-pound cauldron near the edge of the lake, she
helped mark the end the torch's trip, if only for the day. The
ceremony also cued a finale of pyrotechnics and lighted kites to
cap an evening of music, games, food and drink.
Wilkerson found herself in the limelight after years of giving to
her community. After retiring from the Orange County School
District, she started a neighborhood association with her
husband. Her work over the past few years to beautify the Lake
Sunset Luola Terrace neighborhood and to help nearby Orange
Center Elementary School earned her Friday's honor.
The torch arrived in Orlando after stops in Ormond Beach, DeLand
and Daytona Beach, where a somewhat more high-profile torchbearer
took a lead role.
Four-time Winston Cup winner Jeff Gordon, grinning ear to ear and
holding the burning torch high, waved at the crowd as he ran a
leg of the tour through Daytona Beach.
Most along the route had no idea Gordon would be participating.
His role was kept a secret, making for quite a surprise that left
some breathless.
“I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about, and I stuck my
head out the door,“ said an out-of-breath Tom Edwards, who
works at Violet's Flowers. “I looked and saw that the little
fellow was Jeff Gordon.“
Edwards grabbed a disposable camera and joined the crowd chasing
Gordon.
Twelve-year-old Jessica Holt and her sister, Nicole Memolo, 10,
who waited two hours for Gordon, were ready to race him.
“I can beat him in running any day,“ bragged Nicole.
Their father, Ken James, cautioned the children to stay on the
sidewalk and not to bump into anyone.
“We brought them here to see the flame,“ he said. “It's the
symbol of world peace, which we all pray for.“
Corporate sponsorship was showcased as much as the torch.
After Chevrolet workers passed their version of the American
flags, co-sponsor Coca-Cola handed out bottles of cold soda and
company banners just before Gordon made his run before the throng
of media and spectators.
Gordon was eventually taken to Daytona USA, where he stood in
front of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo to tell the media that he was
honored and humbled to be in the run.
“I'm not a kid who wrote a winning essay, I'm not a teacher,
not a cancer survivor,“ he said. “I'm not worthy.“
The torch changes hands five times per mile and travels an
average of 208 miles each day on its journey toward Salt Lake
City for the Feb. 8 opening ceremonies.
Before it got to Gordon, it passed through the hands of local
Chevy car dealer, Glenn S. Ritchie, 60, who was selected both for
his association with the sponsor and with his work in the
community.
The 60-year-old car dealer-owner wore his old running shoes --
the ones he wears on his daily 4- to -5-mile treadmill runs.
Ritchie, too, said he is humbled to be one of the torchbearers.
“As I say, I know there are many others more deserving, but I'm
honored just the same. It's an awesome task.“
Among the viewers in Daytona was 65-year-old Maria Tomais, a
native of Greece who has lived in America the United States since
1952.
“I had to come see it. It's from my country. It means peace for
all nations. I wouldn't miss it for the world,“ she said.
High school bands played patriotic tunes along the way as the
Olympic caravan headed out of Daytona Beach and drove to DeLand
for its next leg of the run.
Arriving about an hour later than expected, the torch runners
were greeted by up to 1,000 people lining Woodland Boulevard from
Wal-Mart to New York Avenue. Some people brought lawn chairs and
others brought pets for a brief glimpse at the torch.
DJ: Hey I'm
Chad Pitt and on the phone one of my favorite Backstreet Boys,
running the torch tomorrow for the 2002 Olympics please welcome
Howie D.
Howie: Hey, hey how's it goin'?
DJ: How are ya?
H: I'm doing great man, how's it goin'?
DJ: So tell me, tell me about the torch, how did you get the gig
to run the torch?
H: (laughs) Well it's kinda crazy, um my family we do a lot of
work for the Dorough Lupus Foundation and I guess some time in
the earlier part of this year Coke-a-cola had a big sweepstakes
where there were asking people to call in and vote in who they
thought would be a good nominee to be a torchbearer. And I think,
supposedly, the foundation and my family got a call from
Coke-a-cola saying there was 10,000 votes in for me across the
United States and they picked this one girl out of Pennsylvania.
Her letter was the most inspirational one about how much I do
with the Lupus Foundation, and they just wanted to give me a call
saying they would be honored to have me as a torchbearer. I was
very excited myself, I didn't know what I was
entitled to do, I thought (laughs) I thought I, when I first got
the call, I was actually going to Salt Lake City and I am running
the torch for the whole Olympics.
DJ: Right.
H: (laughs) It was a little bit less than that. I found out later
on that I was representing Florida and they're actually putting
on a little vignette which will be on after, on national
television
sometime between 9 and 11 with a little with a 20 second vignette
with all the stuff that I do with Lupus and the Dorough Lupus
Foundation and edit it together.
DJ: Are you nervous about maybe dropping it or just tripping or
anything like that?
H: Well you know what it's definitely, I'm not in my type of
environment, so..
DJ: That's right!
H: Yeah running around Lake Eola is something I haven't done in a
long time and I haven't actually seen the torch yet. I'm trying
to keep it as far away from my hair as possible, so I don't catch
my hair on fire.
DJ: I was about to say coz we might have a Michael Jackson thing
goin' on.
H: We can't be doing that I'm not going to be wearing any gel in
my hair tomorrow night or any hairspray. I just hope and pray to
God that I don't trip or anything. And I think I'm only doing
two-tenths of a mile, they said. And there will be a couple of
others to help me out there, so after 9 o'clock there are going
to edit some of the run in with the Lupus stuff that I have done
this year. Like a 20 second vignette they are going to put
together for NBC and that is gonna be on during on of the
commercial breaks between the shows that are on that time.
DJ: Lemme just tell you, being a Backstreet Boy you've made it
when they want you to run with the torch. You've gone all over
the place, all over the world and you've done so many things, but
when they ask you to carry the torch in the freakin' Olympics.
H: I know!
DJ: I mean come on what else is there to do?
H: It is definitely an honor, definitely! Like I said I didn't
know what to expect, I didn't know what I was getting myself
into. They sent me the whole suit in the mail, I got it right
here the Olympic suit and everything they actually even sent like
gloves and a hat and everything. I think they forgot that I was
living in Florida.
DJ: Yeah, we're Florida, it's hot we don't need that.
H: (laughs) But it's gonna be very cool, I'm looking forward to
it, I'm very excited about it.
DJ: That's cool, and congratulations on that and what else is
happening with the Backstreet Boys?
H: Well we're doing a little break right now. We just got done
with finishing up our tour in Japan and we retired the Black and
Blue Tour now. And we're having a little time off for the
holidays, each of us is doing our own different thing. I'm
getting ready to do a Lupus Cruise coming next week, we partnered
up with Carnival Cruise. And I am takin' off out of Ft.
Lauderdale to Cosmo, to Jamaica and Grand Camion Islands.
DJ: Cool
H: A 7-day cruise, and then I'm gonna stay in town with my family
to celebrate the holidays, and we're all gonna get back together
around earlier February, and start recording for about 5 months
for the next album.
DJ: So lemme ask you this question, you don't have to answer this
question if you don't want to but it was brought to my attention
two days ago, I didn't know anything about it, but do you know
anything about this whole AJ being in the Hustler magazine?
H: AJ in the Hustler magazine?
DJ: Yeah.
H: (laughs) No!!!
DJ: Apparently …
H: (laughs) Maybe you can tell me.
DJ: Apparently there are some pictures of AJ and his
ex-girlfriend in this month's issue of Hustler. I haven't seen
it.
H: NO WAY!!
DJ: AJ and his ex-girlfriend were in Hustler, and apparently
she's not wearing too much.
H: Oh my goodness! You know what I've been away from the guys for
about a week…
DJ: See what happens when your away from the guys, they're out of
control!
H: I have to come back home, and hear from my local radio station
stuff about the guys. That is too funny. Honestly, I don't know,
I swear to God that's the first time I heard about that, and I
think I'll have to give AJ a call, to see first of all which
girlfriend it was (laughs) and second of all why would he
dumb-butt to let a picture get out there.
DJ: Sorry I didn't mean to break the news to you…
H: That's ok, that's ok. I honestly thank God that AJ got help
and everything.
DJ: I heard he's doing a lot better.
H: He's doing awesome, we're very proud of him. He made us all
very proud, he's just done well. The tour went off amazing he's
so healthy spiritually, mentally, everything. He's really getting
into writing new music for the next album and everything, he's
just a great person. I'm glad to see him being healthy.
DJ: That's cool. Well I don't know what you are doing Saturday
but I'm inviting you to our Jingle Ball 2001 that's gonna be
Saturday night at downtown Disney's Pleasure Island.
H: Oh, awesome!
DJ: We got Michelle Branch, Jessica Simpson, we got Willa Ford
and Natural, they are gonna be there and it's gonna be an amazing
show.
H: Good, congratulations, I'll try and see. I'm here in town with
my family and they got me wondering all over the place with Lupus
and everything else going on, but if I can try and swing by, I'll
do that!
DJ: Absolutely, and you know what if you wanna mention something
to Nick I know Willa's gonna be there and I'll keep the two away.
H: Oh, I'll definitely mention something …
DJ: Keep `em far, far away from each other.
H: (laughs) No they're cool with each other.
DJ: Well thanks for calling and good luck tomorrow night with the
torch thing.
H: Anytime, anytime!
DJ: It's an honor.
H: Well thank you, thank you very much. And hi to the family,
especially Pollyanna.
DJ: Take care, take care.
H: Take care bud, bye bye!
