Family Ties

Chapter Two

"Nick, could we pleeeease change the channel?" Angel whined.

"Angel, this classic rock and roll, there's is NO WAY I'm changing the channel!" Nick replied as he continued to drive on.

"So, how much longer until we get to this place?" Aaron asked staring out the window.

"Not much longer, I bet you guys will love it."

Leslie shifted uncomfortably in her seat of the Durango. "I don't see why we didn't just stay at the house."

"Because you're there all the time, this is a nice change of pace."

"Well, you're never there so exactly that would've been a change of pace."

Angel flashed her sister a small grin. "Cheer up, Leslie! Don't be so gloomy!"

Nick turned his gaze to the rear-view mirror focusing on Leslie and Angel in back. "Leslie, you're fourteen now, right?"

"Yeah."

"You wanna' drive?"

"What?!" Aaron shouted. "What are you trying to do, Nick? Kill us?"

"I think she's old enough to start driving."

Leslie shook her head. "Not according to the state, no thanks."

Nick growled. Figures.

"I'll drive!" Aaron volunteered.

Nick kept his eyes on the road. "That's okay, buddy."

"What kind of stuff will there be for us to do?" Angel asked.

"Oh, skiing, snowball fights- all kinds of fun stuff."

Aaron beamed. "Dude, that kicks ass!"

"Watch your language."

"Sorry, Kevin."

"Aaron, call me Kevin again and I'm putting you on a bus to New York to stay with BJ."

"If that's all it takes to get a bus ticket I'm buying him a name tag," Leslie whispered to her sister.

"Are you kidding? We hardly ever see Nick, I miss him! We see BJ all the time."

"Seeing BJ wasn't my point."

"What are you guys whispering about?" Aaron bugged.

"Girl talk," Leslie answered. "In other words, you don't wanna' know."

"Yes, I do!"

Nick pulled into the driveway. "Take my word for it bro, you don't."

The family entered the small cabin placing their luggage on the floor. "The snow is beautiful!" Angel smiled.

"It's gonna' be great for skiing," Aaron added.

Nick looked around. "Well, it isn't Beverly Hills 90210, but it's cozy. You girls wanna' take the room upstairs?"

Leslie shrugged lifting her belongings. "Sure. I'm gonna' go take a nap."

"A nap? We just got here. You okay, Les?"

"Fine."

Aaron gazed out the window. "Nick, can we go check out that slope over there?"

Nick turned to his youngest sister. "What do you say, Ang?"

"Sounds good."

"You sure you don't want to come?" Nick asked Leslie as she made her way up the the staircase.

"No, I just want some time alone."

Nick laughed. "Oh, come on, most kids wait until their late teens to become an outcast. Come join us!"

Leslie massaged her temples. "I'm an early learner, go on, I don't feel like it. Besides, the twins have missed you like crazy- don't keep them waiting."

Leslie's words tugged at Nick's heartstrings as he stepped outside watching his younger siblings build a snow fort. 'The twins have missed you like crazy'- obviously, she hadn't.
