So I did it, I endured the night. It would not be much longer though. This was it, I could finally close my eyes. As I stood there waiting I looked down below.
Why did I come here in the first place?
Below the cars drove back and forth in both lanes. A Saturday night the roads were busy and traffic blocked far back. The stars in the sky were bright, the back drop pitch black, it was a perfect night.
I opened my arms wide and closed my eyes. The light night air wrapped around me and sank through my black tee and shorts. My hair loose and free flew wildly around my head and in my face. I inhaled and exhaled deeply and waited.
Inside I could hear the laughter of people, the clinging of bottles of alcohol in the making of sloppy toasts. Men grinded tight and focused with nameless women as the music slammed against the ear drum with the force of a top speed truck. None of them would be able to hear in the morning.
But I will
After parties, I had been to them before. And they were cool. But no matter how cool this one was I was not going to get into it.
And not because I do not want to
Lance
Bright lights flickered in front of my eyes as bodies in the process of grinding bumped into mine. I slid in between close couples, wild partying girls, men who had lost balance with gravity, and fans with propped body parts and cocked sharpies.
The body heat in the club had risen well over 80 degrees and I found myself gulping for breaths of fresh air. Night after night of wildly pumped shows followed by clubs of crazy and demanding parties had worn me out
Keep smiling
I passed a couple who I recognized as my bandmate and an unfamiliar woman.
Fresh air
I broke past the final group of hyped partiers and gasped, falling out onto a balcony platform. I took in a deep breath and looked up to see a beautiful brunette. Her hair was midnight black and eyes a bright dazzling blue. Her complextion was clear and a pale olive color. Her lips a pouty and natural pink.
Her blue eyes flickered in shock at my presence and she braced herself on the balcony rail.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know there was someone else out here." I apologized scrambling to catch my balance and turned on my heel.
My knuckles clenched the rail of the balcony tightly. Turning them a snow white. I released my grasp and watched my knuckles return to a healthy pink as the blood began to flow. I turned my head slowly to look back at my apologenic intruder. I saw only his back, blond hair tipped blue. He wore tight leather pants and a leather jacket.
I sighed distraught from the breaking of my concentration. I knew I would not get it back.
"It's okay, you can stay, I don't own this thing ya know." I said cockily.
His blond head turned to look at me sideways, "You sure?"
"Uh Yeah!" I sighed and leaned my face against my hand.
He shrugged and walked cautiously back onto the balcony.
His eyes were a weird green. Almost lime colored, they illuminated a childish face.
I looked down at the rail, and began aimlessly picking at the black chipping paint. Though I had allowed him to share my company on the balcony his presence seemed to irritate me, for some reason.
"I'm Lance." his smooth charasmatic voice interrupted the night sounds of passing cars, background party voices, and the silence between us.
I glanced at him out of the corner of my eye. He looked me over with a simpathetic smile and I wanted to smear it across his face and turn it into a dumbfounded "O".
So sick of simpathy
I knodded, "Lynn."
"Excuse me?" he asked raising and eyebrow.
Stupid
"The name's Lynn."
Stupid Him
"Oh..."he said, "Nice to meet you."
or stupid me?
He extended his hand for a handshake. Questioning his gesture I looked up from his hand to his face.
"How do I know you're not some sick freak out here to rape me after you follow me out of this place." I cocked.
Lance smirked,"Saucy? Nah, I'm not here for any sexual inuendo, just fresh air. It's nerve racking in there."
He made perfectly no sense to me.
"Then why are you staying here?" I asked.
Lance smiled a sly grin,"Cos I have to stay... It's our afterparty. I'm *N SYNC, Have you...".
"I know who you are, I was at tonights concert.... with my friends." I explained, "But I don't judge and converse with people relying on their job preference."
Lance laughed,"Good point."
I glanced up at him, it had been a long time since someone had agreed with me. Since someone had been on my side.
I sighed and thought about what Lance said, about having to stay. He had no freedom it seemed. When I had plenty of it. And I took it all for granted.
