Chapter 10

Maya was fuming by the time she reached the highway. Who the hell does he think he is? I love you, my ass. I don't believe the f**king a**hole. Thinking some music would help calm her down, she turned on the radio and Nick's angelic voice filled her car. Damn this. Everywhere I go there he is. Even if it's his goddamn voice. She pushed the button to switch station angrily and ended up on a hard rock station. (A.N. No offense to anyone who likes hard rock. Sorry.) The fast, violent music helped take some of her anger away.

Maya had made it successfully into the waiting area in which her plane would be boarding. Her eyes wandered around the crowds of people surrounding her. Her eyes fell on a couple. They were holding hands and kissing in a corner. Smiling to herself, she thought of the first she met Nick.

(A.N. This is entirely in Maya's point of view.)

I was sitting at my front desk, reading an article about the so-called famous Backsreet Boys when I saw five guys come in the hotel. Whoa, these guys looked weird. They were wearing large trenchcoats in the tropical sun with hats and sunglasses.

"Man, it's hot in here. Thank God we made it into the hotel in one piece.", one of them said, taking off his coat to reveal tattoo covered arms.

I looked down and I couldn't believe my eyes. They were the Backstreet Boys!! Right here, in front of me!! I decided to keep my cool, so they wouldn't get the idea that I was some sort of psychotic fan out to get them, which I really wasn't. I only liked their music. I barely even knew their names.

The tall one with the dark hair and green eyes stepped up to me.

"Hi. How may I help you?", I asked.

"Um... do you have any reservations under Jive?"

"One moment please."

"Sure."

I typed up the name and came up with a reservation for five private suites for a month.

"Yes. You have suites 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. They're about a mile from here. The bellboy will escort you. There will also be a rental car there for you to travel with.

"Thank you."

"Your welcome. Please enjoy your stay in the Bahamas and feel free to do whatever you please, because those five suites are off limits. Bye."

"Bye."

They all took off, but I noticed that the cute one with the blond hair kept looking at me until the short one with the curly brown hair slapped him on the arm. I smiled to myself as I turned to serve my next customer.

The next few days were a blur. The blond one, who's name turned out to be Nick Carter, seemed to stop by at the lobby everyday when it was my turn at the front desk until he finally had the guts to come up to me and ask me to dinner.

"Hi. My name is... N-nick and I saw you when I came to this hotel a few says back and well...... well..... I... I was w-wondering if you w-wanted to cometodinnerwithme."

"What? I didn't get the last part."

"I asked if you wanted to come to dinner with me."

I seemed to pretend that I had to think about until I saw the alarmed look on his face.

"Of course. I'd love to. I noticed you when you came here a few days back too and well, I just gotta say--"

"Flight number 37 is now boarding at gate 12."

The announcement interrupted Maya's memory. She got up and gathered up her things to start on her journey back to Bahamas where she would be living with her long-time best friend. She thought about going home, but she knew Nick would search for her there.

"Nick..... Nick.... What the hell happened, man?"

Nick sat there with his head in his hands, rocking back and forth on the couch.

"AJ, I lost her. I lost her, man. I lost Maya."

"What? How?"

Shantel came down the stairs as if nothing had happened. She was in her usual bubbly mood.

"HER!!! It was all her fault!!!! She tricked me!! I hate you Shantel!!! I hate you with all of my heart!!!"

"Whoa.... Nick calm down, we'll talk about it."

"What's the use Frick, she long gone now."

"Come on. Get ready and we'll drive to the airport and look for her," Howie offered.

"Just leave me alone, guys. You don't understand. I was gonna ask her to marry me and now... now she's gone."

"Nick, I'm so sorry."

"Yeah, well sorry isn't going to bring her back is it?"

"Nick we'll try--"

"No. Its over. Everything is over. I just lost my life."

"Nick, you'll win her back. Just give her time."

"Bri, I did something. Something totally unforgivable. It's all my fault. If only I wasn't so stupid!!!"

"Nick, what happened?"

"If you wanna know so bad, go ask your two-timing cousin, Shantel."

Nick ran up the stairs as six heads turned towards Shantel.

"WHAT?"

"Just what the hell did you do?"

"I didn't do anything. He's... he's lying."

"You haven't caused him enough pain when you guys were together? Just what is it with you and hurting people?"

"Kevin, shut the hell up. You don't even know what you're saying."

"I don't know what I'm saying? You just caused my brother agony. Gimme a break. You're a disgrace."

"I'm leaving. I don't have to stand here and take this."

She turned to Leighanne and said, "Good luck with you and Brian. I wish you the best."

Leighanne gave her a blank look and turned to Brian. Who was just standing there, not knowing what to do for his best friend.

"Brian?"

"Hmmm?"

"Come on. Let's get a cup of coffee and we'll gice Nick some time to calm down. Then, we'll go talk to him."

"But Leigh--"

"Trust me, honey. Everything is gonna be okay."

They walked hand in hand to the kitchen and everyone else followed suit. Shantel watched everyone leave and ran up to her room to start packing and do more damage than what she had already done.
