Chapter 3

*~Brian~*

I ran up the stairs. Of course at that time, I didn't realize that it was a 20-story building. I got off on the 9th floor and took the elevator to the 20th floor. I dashed up the stairs to the roof and kicked the door open.

There she was. She had her back to me and hair was blowing in the wind. Even though I couldn't see her face, I knew then that she would be beautiful.

She then turned around and I saw her face. It was tear stained. She looked so miserable and alone.

*~Hope~*

I heard someone stumble onto the roof. I figured it was a cop that was going to make some sort of an attempt to 'save' me.

I decided to turn around anyway and make sure it wasn't some physcopath that the police were after.

Then I saw him. He looked half scared and half determined. I figured he was afraid of heights and was going to 'try' to save me. He was cute too.

"Get out of here. I'm not going to come down, so don't waste your time."

"I'm not leaving."

He stepped closer to me and was only 1 foot away.

"What's your name?", I asked, not wanting him to leave.

Just then there was a very powerful gust of wind. I fell forward and landed on top of him.

"Hi. My name's is Brian.", he said smiling and sort of blushing.

I noticed that he had a southern accent and that made him even cuter.

"I'm Hope."

"Well, I guess my being here was successful. I got ya off the ledge, didn't I?"

"No way! It was the wind. I'm going back."

It was only then that I realized the position we were in. I immeadiatly got up and turned a dark shade of crimson. I turned around and started walking towards the ledge when he held my wrist and pulled me back.

"Just listen to what I have to say before you go."

"What?", I said impatiently, but he didn't notice.

"Your name is Hope. Hope means to always have faith and to never give up. And yet here we are. I don't know what happened in your past, but I do know that your parents gave you that name for a reason when you were brought in this world. They wouldn't want you to end it all like this. Where are Your parents anyway?"

The talk of my parents made me want to cry. A tear rolled down my cheeks and he brushed it away gently.

"It's okay, you don't have to answer that."

"They're d-d-dead."

"I'm so sorry."

He held me tight as I cried into his shoulder. We stayed like that for a few minutes.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know. I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. It wasn't your fault."

I looked into his eyes and only saw the concern and worry he had for me. But he doesn't even know me. All I knew, was that I could not fall in love again. Not after what happened with Mark. Love was just too painful.
