Chapter 31: Out of my head

“Sometimes I feel, Like I am drunk behind the wheel, The wheel of possibility, However it may roll, Give it a spin, See if you can somehow factor in, You know there’s always more than one way to say exactly what you want to say. Was I out of my head? Was I out of my mind? How could I have ever been so blind? I was waiting for indication, It was hard to find…”

“Amy, you still want to wait for them?” Brian said glancing at his watch again. It was 9:00pm they already ended up eating but still were worried.

“Let’s just call, then we’ll go.” Amy decided, disappointed that she didn’t get to see her friend.

“Good Idea.” Brian replied. Amy smiled as he called Nick.

“Hey Nick!” Brian exclaimed as Nick answered the phone.

“Hey B.” Nick replied quickly.

“Well Amy & I are leaving the restaurant. Maybe next time you two decide to go out…you will really do it.” Brian joked.

“OH my gosh man, I am so sorry I completely forgot.” Nick honestly answered as he looked at the naked woman lying next to him. He smiled. Kat returned the smile.

“Its quite all right. We still had a nice uninterrupted dinner.” Brian explained.

“Well if you want stop by Kat’s house before you go home. We can have dessert or something.” Nick said.

“Fine with me. See ya then.” Brian said.

“Bye Bri.” Nick finished with.

“Amy darling, we are heading to Kat’s so don’t be sad, you’ll see your friend.” Brian commented kissing her softly.

“I’m not. I could never be sad with you. It’s just I miss all of my friends. Megs is suddenly living in my house and Cate, I mean we used to be so tight. It’s weird.” Amy explained.

“Well you’ll have to throw a party and invite them all then.” Brian suggested.

“Thanks Bri, that’s a great idea.” Amy said as they walked to the car.

“Kat! Get dressed!” Nick shouted.

“Why? I thought you liked me like this.” She replied sexily.

“Amy & Brian are coming over.” He said.

“Okay, clothes here I come.” She said heading towards her closet. Nick quickly put on some too.

“I can’t believe we forgot about dinner tonight.” Nick commented.

“I know…it’s not like we were sidetracked or anything.” Kat replied sarcastically.

“Hey J.” Cate said walking down. AJ sat in the kitchen eating a sandwich he proclaimed dinner.

“Hey C.” He replied surprised. She barely left her room these days. She ate dinner but that’s all her ever saw her eat and it showed. She was amazingly thin and pale.

“Cate-maybe you should go outside more often and start eating more.” AJ suggested.

“I know.” She replied grabbing an apple and sitting next to him.

“Cate are you okay?” He asked worried.

Her eyes glossed over and soon tears fell as she shook her head no.

“What’s wrong?” He asked

“I don’t know.” She honestly replied.

“Is it Nick still?” AJ asked.

“At first but now…I just don’t know.” She honestly replied again.

“Maybe you should see a therapist.” AJ suggested.

“Yeah…but….I am not sure.” She said trying to be strong and wiped her tears away.

“How about you & I go see if we can find a reliable one. And get you an appointment.” AJ offered.

“Okay.” Cate replied meekly. AJ hopped into his beautiful new black Jetta and Cate joined him. He tried his best to make her laugh, since it used to come so easily to her earlier but nothing would help. That’s when he knew he better find some one who could help.

He brought along a phone book and they began the journey. To find the person who could help Cate.

“Kristin dear.” Kevin announced as he entered his home.

“How’d it go?” She asked sweetly.

“Not well…but what’d you expect?” He asked.

“I’m not sure sweetheart.” She replied kissing his nose.

“Hey you remember my neighbor Heather right?” Kevin asked. Kristin nodded.

“Want to invite her to dinner?” He asked.

“Sure honey, but first…” She replied before planting a passionate one on his lips.

“Now, Now, You naughty girl. Let’s at least invite her first.” Kevin joked. Kristin laughed and pretended to hit him. The room filled with the penetrating brightness they both gave off around each other. Kristin called and invited Heather over.

“She’s coming…” She announced before jumping into Kevin’s arms and giving him yet another kiss.

Heather sat in shock as she stared at the phone she just put down. Yeah, she knew he would never be hers but she at least thought he’d stay with Lea “his love” but now he was back with Kristin. Not that she had anything against Kris, she just thought when she left….that she left for good.

Oh well, better go get ready. She thought.

Lissa and Mark sat across from each other making funny faces with their food and sharing their “creations”.

“You know you are very creative.” Mark remarked.

“Thanks.” Lissa replied surprised.

“You should try art classes or something.” He suggested.

“Well I kind of already have taken some…” She shyly admitted.

“Really?” he asked. She giggled.

“Yeah.” She admitted.

“Hey I promised EM I’d help her move tomorrow, apparently something went wrong with her and Nick.” Lissa shared changing the subject.

“Want me to take off work and help?” Mark asked.

“Awww…that would be really sweet of you.” Lissa responded smiling.

“Then it’s done.” He proclaimed.

Soon after Megs returned home she found out that AJ had left and so had Cate. Lea showed up right on time…looking really pathetic.

“Oh sweetheart, are you all right?” Megs asked.

“Maybe if I would have just been obsessed with him as he was with me, he would have stayed.” Lea replied.

“Change yourself a guy? No way…he’s not worth it.” Meg replied knowingly.

“So what did you get?” Lea sniffed.

“An American Werewolf in Paris, Psycho, Rosemary’s Baby, & Firestarter.” Meg listed off. “Think that’s enough?” Lea asked letting a smile hit her lips.

“Well…we need selection.” Megs replied defensively.

“Sure….so what goodies do we have?” She asked.

“ICE CREAM!” Megs exclaimed even though she bought more…nothing compared to ice cream.

“Ben & Jerry’s?” Lea asked excited. Megs nodded.

“YAY….let’s get to it girl!” Lea exclaimed sounding happy for the first time that evening..

Megs smiled…hoping that she could help out her cousin and her friend.

Once they brought out the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream they started Psycho first. Since it was a classic and all.

“Courtney?” Howie asked re-entering his home.

“Yes baby?” She asked hoping that he hadn’t heard anything earlier. He snuck up behind her and kissed her…relinquishing her fears.

“Why’d you do that?” She asked innocently.

“I missed you.” He replied.

“Where did you go?” She asked.

“Oh I went for a walk and saw an old friend. She used to date my friend and needed someone to cry on.” Howie explained. He was happy he had saw her….maybe it was just because he found someone who he could trust and be trusted too but for some reason that just didn’t seem right at all….maybe their was something else that was just be ignored right now….maybe that was better that way…maybe…. He was brought back into reality as Courtney kissed him back.

“Do you love me?” She asked. He nodded and kissed more hungrily not thinking of her….thinking of some else….someone he didn’t think he should be thinking about…

“Then Howie….Marry me!” She exclaimed. He pulled back in shock. It all began to make sense.

“What?” He asked to make sure he heard her right.

“Marry me baby.” She encouraged.

“Whoa…don’t you think its kind of fast?” He asked.

“Don’t tell me your afraid of commitment too.” She commented.

“Well…its just that…….. I am.” He weakly replied.

She figured he wasn’t quite over Stef yet but smiled. She had placed the idea and soon her plan would began to really work. Little did she know…

Emily sat in her new home…that was still empty….she would start moving her stuff in tomorrow.

Tonight she was just enjoying her solitude. She was eating some Chalupas that were on sale at Taco Bell as she realized she couldn’t afford this house without a job. Nick had earlier told her not to worry about it. But now….now….she couldn’t accept anything from him. She sighed as she picked up the phone, that the phone company had just put in that day and called 411 for job listings.

Time to get to work, she thought dryly. At about 8 that night….her editor called. She hadn’t heard from them in ages but apparently they wanted another book. She told them she had a couple manuscripts and that she would fax them in a couple days…once she got a fax machine. She also had a job interview lined up in two days for receptionist at a local therapy office. Howie called her that night and amazingly she felt really lifted by his voice.

“Hey babe.” She replied excited.

“Hey hot muffin.” He joked. They laughed and he told her he knew of why Stef and Courtney were “playing” him.

“Courtney wants me to marry her.” He explained.

“I see, so she can divorce you and get your money?” Em asked.

“Probably.” He replied.

“I sorry.” Em sympathized.

“I’ll live…but is the plan still on?” He asked.

“Yeah.” Em said.

“Good, we’ll just have to speed it up. Courtney’s gone tomorrow so I figure I’ll move all my good stuff there…hire some movers you know the drill and set up your place with not just your stuff but mine too.” He suggested.

“That’s a wonderful idea. I’d hate to live alone.” Em said thrilled at the idea of him as her new room mate.
