Chapter 1: Freezing Cold

Rene stared darkly at the door as it slammed shut. Bitch. She felt so cold. She was freezing all over. Her 'friend' Daisy had told her she was fine and left to go to the club. Probably to check out the guys. Daisy wasn't even her friend. Just an old schoolmate who had never liked her anyways. And here she was, all alone in the Hilton. Wonderful life she had.She shivered, and uncurled briefly to grab the blanket and wrap it around her trembling shoulders again. She was already wearing a sweater, and a jacket over that, but she was still so, so cold. Freezing. And the air conditioning wasn't even on.

She gazed out the window, staring out amongst the city of New York. It's bright lights, flashing and shining brightly, each lighted billboard demanding attention.

She was getting colder, if that was possible. Rene stood up, and stretched. She wanted to walk outside, instead of staying in this cramped hotel room. She stepped out into the brightened hallway, and felt better quickly. Walking down to the elevators, she wondered if she could take the elevator up to theroof and stare out around her.

She waited impatiently. Finally the elevator did arrive, with two men inside it.One of them was large, humongous even. The other man was smaller, more normal sized, and he was wearing a coat and a hat, pulled down low over his eyes. When she stepped in, he smiled at her briefly, but she was still so cold she could barely smile.

She pressed the button for the top floor, shaking. She noticed the button for the 30th floor was lit up.When the elevator crawled up to the 20th floor, she felt as though she couldn't breathe. Couldn't move. Something clamped over her heart, and she winced inpain. She was so cold, she was shaking now.

"Miss, are you alright?" the shorter man asked, concerned.

"I…I…I'm s-s-s-so cold," her teeth chattered. At that moment, she had to choose that fantastic moment, to have her legs go weak. Blackness took over her body as she fainted.
