Chapter 6
Two pairs of strikingly irresistible eyes looked up at the door to the luxurious bathroom as someone pounded heavily from the other side. Lisa moved father away from Lance as she trembled with anxiety. She looked up in alarm as Chris barged in. He took one look at her in her disheveled robe and glazed eyes and immediately turned to Lance who was still seated on the floor.
"Lance-I don't want to know what your blond ass has been up to but you better have your lady out the door in fifteen minutes or JC will kill us!" Chris warned the white haired boy who was getting up off the floor and brushing off his black shirt and dark denim jeans.
"Lisa...your friends left. They said that they were going to go get something to eat and then they were going to head over to the concert. They seemed really pissed off at you because they thought that you had been acting like a major, and I am only quoting this, bitch, so I told them to just chill out. I said that Lance'd make you feel better." At this Lisa frowned and looked down at the sink as Lance glanced over to see how she had reacted. His face feel as she stared sadly stared down. His heart screamed at him for making the wrong move as Chris continued. "But your friends were on a roll so I have a feeling that they are not that happy with you." Chris walked out of the bathroom leaving a baffled Lisa and a worried Lance behind. The brown haired girl sighed and rested her head in her hands as the cloud of brown hair settled around her in soft waves.
"Hey," Lance approached her carefully, pushing her hair away from her face and tilting her head up. "Don't worry. It'll be fine, I promise." Lance stroked her hand reassuringly as she smiled wanly. She put a finger to his lips to silent the consoling boy, but he continued speaking. "Lisa- I am so sorry. All I keep on doing is apologizing....I didn't mean to do that before. I just didn't have the will to stop and I wasn't thinking. I'm so sor-"
"Lance," Lisa interrupted quickly as she gazed steadily into his eyes. "It's okay. I wanted to, but it didn't feel right yet. I'm afraid to start something new so fast. It's not your fault, Lance...just let it go. It's okay." The girl assured as she regained her confidence and self righteousness as quickly as she had lost it in Lance's arms. A look of relief flooded Lance's face, and Lisa smiled back at him. his green eyes sparkled with happiness and dazzled with live as lisa brought the teasing and fun back. She grabbed a small bottle of hair gel and leave in conditioner off the counter. Lance laughed whole heatedly as she came at him with the styling products. Lisa squirted the goop into her hands and rubbed it through the blonde mess on his head. Lisa ran her hands through his hair and laughed as the spikes sprung back into place. "There," she said as she stood with her hands on her hips and looked him over approvingly. "No more frizz, the spikes are back again. Like an angel." She smiled quickly as Lance looked into her stunning eyes with a hopeful glance.
"Lance- you better get out of this bathroom right now so that I can get ready for a concert that I am going to. I hear that this band is pretty good, well all the guys in the group are phenomenal.....well except for the spikey haired blonde boy. Lance, I think his name is. That boy can not dance for his life. Personally-" Lisa raised her voice so that the older man in the bedroom could hear, "I go for older more mature men. Dred-headed senior citizens in boy bands are soooo sexy!" She added in a husky voice as she pushed a giggling Lance out of the bathroom. "I heard that!" Chris yelled from the bedroom as Lisa slowly shut the door. She turned and smiled at her reflection. She became startled when she saw the look on her face and the sparkling in her eyes. She had forgotten what it meant to be truly happy. But that didn't mean that she wasn't enjoying it. Lisa let the awkward almost kiss be pushed aside. She wanted to start slow because if they went too fast, it could only lead to hurt.
She turned and quickly got dressed. After a final look in the mirror, she fluffed her hair and ran out the bathroom door. Lisa hated being late, and she didn't want JC to be mad at her before she had even met him. "Woo Hoo! Look at that beautiful lady right there! Oh who is that?" Chris shouted as Lisa ran across the room in search of her sandals. "Oh Lisa..." he answered himself as she gave him a weird glance. "I didn't know it was you. I thought that you were someone else. But, hey, I have heard that you go for old shriveled up men such as myself," Chris stuck out his chest and flexed his arm as Lisa pinched his biceps.
"You heard right! I just go gaga for grandpas! I hope that we can have fun, as long as you are not shriveled down there, if ya know what I mean!" Lisa grandly winked as she sat down next to Chris on the couch and puled on her doc marten sandals. Chris snorted and lightly punched her on the arm. Lisa looked up and glanced around the room. "Where is Lance? He didn't leave already did he?" Lisa asked cautiously. She hoped that he hadn't been so frustrated with her rejection in the bathroom that he would leave so that he would not have to put up with more of it. Lisa just wanted to forget about it and start over again. Without the attitudes and misconceptions. She wanted to tease and joke like she normally would with friends. Friends who were there for her when things went bad, not just when she could get them something. Chris interrupted Lisa's train of thoughts. "Haven't you seen enough of him...jeez they way you two were carrying on in the bathroom. My god! I can just imagine" Lisa stared at Chris with wide eyes as he continued his rendition of what he thought had happened behind the closed doors.
Lance approached the two seated on the couch from behind as he heard Chris go off about what he assumed had happened previously. 'If only he knew how wrong he was' Lance thought grimly as he decided to interrupt the man before he got Lisa upset. 'Then I would have to apologize. again. I Know the girl for five hours and she gets an apology out of me for every hour I have known her existence. And I am glad that she can do that to me' Lance smiled as he thought of how he fascinated her.
"For m'lady Lisa. I come bearing gifts." Lisa looked up from Chris as Lance walked over cradling the lilac roses that he had earlier discarded on the floor. He placed them in a vase and put them on the table in front of Lisa. "You look beautiful, Lisa. Breathtaking, in fact." Lance smiled as he looked into her shining eyes, Chris' speech forgotten as Lisa reveled in the compliment. Lisa was dressed simply, but she wore a deep purple thick strapped halter top and short khaki shorts. On her hands she wore simple sterling silver rings and in her delicate ears, she wore plain studs to match. Her shining brown hair fell softly and swirled around her face as she got up and walked towards Lance with open arms.
"Thank you" she breathed into his ear as he embraced her, "for everything." Lance smiled and reached for her hand as she pulled away. The two smiled at each other and began to walk towards the door. "Lisa! Do you have your pass and ticket? You aren't going to get anywhere without it. Not even with your girlish good looks!" Chris called as he watched the brunette turn from the blonde tank top clad teen idol and grab her ticket and pass off the table in the foyer. "Thanks. I don't know what I would do without you, Grandpa!" She added.
Lance turned to Lisa in the elevator with puppy dog eyes. "So, you don't go for youngins like me, huh?! Only for the older men! You just used me to get to my grandpa over there. Is that it? Well fine, then. I'll just walk over to the day care center where I belong. You're just too mature for me, Lisa!" Lance crossed his arms and stomped his feet as the elevator came to a stop on the bottom floor. Lisa began to pull him out of the elevator and into the lobby. 'Maybe I should take a chance' Lisa thought. 'I should trust him. Besides, friends can hold hands, friends can flirt. I'll take it slow and start with little things. Lisa stared warily at Lance's hand at his side. 'I want her' Lance concluded. 'I want so much more than she can give right now. But I can't hurry her. She is too scared, and she has been through too much. Lisa is too special. I am willing to wait. For as long as she needs.' Lance glanced at the girl beside him. She walked with such confidence and carried herself with pride. She was not conceited, but she knew who she was. Lance liked that. He knew that the self confidence had had come out of the hurt and pain that she'd endured. Lisa had pushed the sadness out, and had learned to be happy with herself. She gained respect for herself so that she could move on. Lance studied her face with his dazzling blue eyes as a look of confusion came over Lisa's face. The blonde frowned as he watched her Lisa deep in thought. 'C'mon lisa,' she thought to herself, 'Just grab his hand. Show him that you are willing to make this friendship work out. You almost turned him away, now show him you care.' Lisa reasoned with herself as the trio entered the lobby, with Lisa and Lance bringing up the rear. Lisa was lost in her thoughts so she did not hear the screaming girls from outside the lobby's glass doors. She came to a decision as they neared the exit, and looked into Lance's eyes as she grabbed his hand and intertwined her fingers with his. Her heart fluttered at the contact and Lance looked down in disbelief. He began to smile with happiness as his heart burst with hope and increasing love for the glorious girl at his side. As Lance looked out into the sea of faces on the other side of the door he glanced at Lsia frantically. She was staring into space with a look of utter contentment on her face. Panic quickly arose inside of Lance as the two quickly approached the doors. 'She doesn't understand. She doesn't know that we can't do things like this in the public. She doesn't know that I can't have a girlfriend, or a friend that is a girl. The fans. They can't know. I can't do this. I am going to get in trouble. I can't hold hands while those girls are out there...no' Lance's thoughts ran rapidly through his head as he stared at their hands connecting the two together. His thoughts stopped as he glanced at the content girl at his side who had taken so much to make the first move and grab his hand. And all thoughts of media and fans left his mind as he pushed through the doors of the exit. He followed Chris out to the car that was waiting for them as police held back screaming fans. Lisa smiled shakily as she took in the hysteria that was surrounding them. One look in her eyes told Lance to do the right thing. 'Screw it' he thought to himself as he clung to her hand. It was going to take a lot more than that to make him let go.
