I thank God for this most
amazing day;
for the leaping greenly
spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;
and for everything
which is natural, which is
infinite, which is yes.
If God Had Answered All Of My Prayers
by Ron Atchison
If God had answered all of my prayers
I'd be traveling the world on my own private yacht
Involved in several romantic affairs
With women whose beauty I longingly sought.
If God had answered all of my prayers
I'd have fame and fortune and beautiful weather
I'd sail along the coast of Spain
And if inclined, stay there forever.
But if God had answered all of my prayers
There I'd be, a millionaire
Beneath the sun a world away
From where I met you that rainy day.
Footprints
by Ralph Ransom
I will build a great life
by building great days.
To destroy, to hurt, to tear down
is weakness.
To create, to heal, to build
is strength.
I will be a creator, a healer, a builder.
I will dream great dreams
and make them come true.
My footprints in the sands of time
will give my brothers and sisters
a gift of hope and encouragement.
This world will be a better place
to live because I was here.

a Navajo poem
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond in the snow,
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there. I did not die.”
Winter Poem
by Nikki Giovanni
once a snowflake fell
on my brow and i loved
it so much and i kissed
it and it was happy and called its cousins
and brothers and a web
of snow engulfed me then
i reached to love them all
and i squeezed them and they became
a spring rain and i stood perfectly
still and was a flower
I'll Paint You A Rainbow
by Grace E. Easley
I'll paint you a rainbow to hang on the wall,
to brighten your heart when the grey shadows fall.
On a canvas of joy outlasting the years,
with a soft brush of sweetness to dry all your tears.
I'll paint you a rainbow with colors of smiles
That glow with sincerity over the miles.
On a palette of words I will tenderly blend
Tones into treasures of sunlight and wind.
I'll paint you a rainbow that reaches so wide,
Your sights and your sorrows will vanish inside,
And deep in the center of each different hue,
A memory fashioned especially for you.
So lift up your eyes, for suspended above,
A rainbow designed by the fingers of love.
Discovery
by Toni Mosley
Ah.
Here it comes again.
Giggling,
Effervescent,
It begins in the lowest levels of my belly,
Creeps up to engulf my heart,
Lightens my head.
It makes me dizzy.
Laughter bubbles about inside my mouth
Tickling my teeth
Dancing on my tongue...
Bursting out!
See how it brightens the sun,
Clears the skies,
Softens the rain.
Everyone smiles.
"She's in love, " they whisper,
And I hear.
Am I?
I am...oh, yes,
I Am.
I love the person
Who is Me.
Out In The Fields With God
by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
The little cares that fretted me,
I lost them yesterday
Among the fields above the sea,
Among the winds at play ;
Among the lowing of the herds,
The rustling of the trees,
Among the singing of the birds,
The humming of the bees,
The foolish fears of what may pass,
I cast them all away
Among the clover-scented grass,
Among the new mown hay ;
Among the hushing of the corn
Where drowsy poppies nod,
Where ill thoughts die and good are born,
Out in the fields with God.
