An elder Cherokee
Indian was teaching his Grandchildren about life.
He said to them, “A fight is going on deep inside me… it is a terrible
fight and it is between two wolves.

One wolf represents
fear, anger, and envy, ... sorrow, and regret, ...
greed, arrogance, and self-pity, ... guilt, resentment, and inferiority,
... lies, false pride, and superiority.

The other stands
for joy, peace, and love, ... hope, sharing, and serenity,
...humility, and kindness, ... friendship, empathy, and generosity, ...
truth, compassion, and faith.

And this same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other
person, too."
For a long time, the youngsters, sat in respectful silence, and thought
about their Grandfather's words. Finally, one child lifted his head, looked
at the old man, and asked, "Which wolf will win, Grandfather?"
The weathered Cherokee nodded his head slowly as he looked back and
forth from grandchild to grandchild. And when he spoke, he said: "The
one we feed will win, my children. The one we feed will win."
