Part Two: A video project for 5th grade students and the Lower School.

Purpose: For students to learn that they have important choices to think about when faced with a bully situation. Fifth grade students will produce a video based on 1st and 3rd grade bully stories. Before 5th graders can begin the project, they must read, write, and reflect on the importance of making Haverford a “No Bully Zone.”

Value: Students will take a minute to rate the importance of the following on a scale of 1=low to 5=high.

Read: Ilac Story – A fictional story with real life problems - http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/parents/lesson_plans/bullies_ilac_story.html

Map the choices: What choices do the “friends” of Ilac have when they see these bully frames? Did the “friends” think about choices, consequences, and values? Use INSPIRATION to map the alternative choices of:

1.     Ilac’s “best friend” at the bus stop.

2.     Ilac’s two “friends” snickering in the classroom.

3.     Ilac’s “friends” at recess.

Write: Use Microsoft WORD to write a real or fiction story about a bully frame. The story should be no more than one page long. Use INSPIRATION to map the possible choices for characters in your bully frame. Turn in your bully story and map for credit. One of the top stories will be selected as the script for our movie!

Assessment rubric: All students start with 100 points! Students may lose points if work is incomplete, or turned in late. Students will have 3 lab periods to complete their work. Use a proper header for the bully frame story, and remember that spelling counts!
