If you can't see a crossword here, you've probably got a non-Java enabled browser, a Java enabled browser with Java support switched off, or an ultra-conservative firewall that screens out Java applets.

If you can see a crossword here, instructions are as follows:

  • Click on a square to get the clue for that answer
  • Type normally to insert an answer
  • Press spacebar to switch from horizontal to vertical
A "feature" means that the clue doesn't change when the direction does. Click on a square that only belongs to one answer to ensure you're looking at the right clue.

This is a British-style cryptic crossword. If this makes no sense to you, consult rec.puzzles.crosswords.

The astute amongst you will notice that the letters turn red if you type in the wrong answer. Only the weak-willed would even think of using this feature to work out the correct answers...
