We see a boy playing alone in a playground when Drusilla appears out of nowhere. The little boy tells her he isn't suppose to talk to any people and Drusilla replies him 'Well I'm not a person.' Just as she takes a step forward for her meal Angel appears and tells the boy run home. Angel and Drusilla clearly know eachother, they get a little chummy with one another. Angel warns Drusilla to take Spike and get out of here or it will end badly. She replies 'No, this is only the beginning'. She tries to make an advance to him but finds that his heart 'stinks for the slayer'. Buffy sees Angel and Drusilla and jumps to conclusion which gets her all upset the next day.
She tells what happened on her hunt last night to Wilow and Xander, and with Xander being all pleased of this news doesn't bring Buffy anywhere near to a good mood - until an old friend gives her a surprise visit. Billy 'Ford' Fordham. He is an old friend of Buffy who wouldn't give Buffy a second look and she moped for a whole month over him. He fits right into the crowd, just alittle to well for the likes of Xander. At the Bronze, Buffy runs across Angel and asks him where he was last night - hoping to find out from him what really went on. When he lies to her that he did nothing, and stayed in - she gives up and leaves him. Meanwhile Xander lets in Billy that Angel and Buffy are an item (kinda like - don't get any ideas with her). Buffy decides to call it a night and leaves the Bronze early, and Angel is less thrilled when she asks Billy to escort her home.
On their way home, outside the Bronze - Buffy sees a lady being attacked by a vampire. She tells Ford to go back to the Bronze cause she forgot her purse meanwhile she goes and attacks the vampire. Buffy goes and runs to the vampire and attacks him and thus slays him while to her surprise Ford was behind the her and saw the whole thing. On seeing him, she makes up an excuse that there were two cats fighting and now they are gone, but he assures her that he know she is the slayer, and has known that for along time.
Buffy tells the whole episode to Willow on the phone and that he knew the whole time that she was a slayer, but she is still bummy about Angel. At Willows place, after she gets off the phone with Buffy, she gets an unexpected visit from Angel who asks her help to search on the net about Ford. She thinks it just blind jelouse - which Angel admits it is....but there is something he knows is not right about Ford. On looking, Willow finds out that there is no recond of Ford being a student at Sunnydale High like he said he is. Angel gets her to promise to secrecy that she will not leak a word to Buffy about this - Willow reluctantly agrees.
Later that night, we see Ford heading into a dark ally and heads to a basement club full of vampire wannabes. He assures them that all is going well in their plan. They will get the two things most teenagers want - die young and stay pretty.
Back at school, Willow tries to run away from metting up with Buffy, expecially when she is keeping secrets away from Buffy.
Xander, Willow and Angel go and check out the address that links to Ford and find it leading ot Sunset Club, where wannabee vampires hang out. They leave the club after Angel disses one of the females who wants to join the 'lonely' ones. Meanwhile Buffy and Ford are walking beside school property and notice two vampires around the school. Buffy goes and attack one of the vampires and give a steak to Ford to kill the female. Ford claims after Buffy kills of one of the vampire that he killed the female. The supposedly dead female vampire attacks Giles and gets away from Buffy stealing the vampire book. The female vampire delivers the book to Spike. Ford sneaks into the Spike's layer and makes a deal with Spike - if Spike makes him a vampire, he will offer Spike the Slayer.
Angel visits Buffy that night, and she confronts him about Drusilla. Reluctantly, Angel explains that before he gained his soul, he did terrible things - one them includes Drusilla. He drove her insane and killed off her whole family, and they day she took her holy vows, he made her a deamon. Hoping that revealing this dark side of him will gain trust from Buffy he warns her not to trust Ford so easily and that she maybe in danger.
The next day, Ford asks Buffy to him in school at Nine in the evening for a special surprise, but Buffy gets suspicious and shows up at the Sunset Club in the afternoon and confronts Ford on what his surprise is. By the time she finds out his plans, it's too late. The doors are closed and they only open from the outside, there is no way out and the Spike and his men will be here soon, cause its sunset.
Not accepting defeat so easily, Buffy tries to convince Ford and his friends what they are doing is wrong, and that becoming a vampires means they will be dead, just a demon taking accomodation of their body. She tries to talk Ford out of it only to find that h he is dying of brain cancer, and that he will be the only one to transform to a vampire. The rest are just a meal ticket for Spike and his ligions. Buffy tries to warn the hole group but Ford attacks her with a crowbar and knocks her out.
The vampires arrive as planned and start feeding on the club members starting with Spike feeding off from Chantarelle, Buffy knocks out Ford and leaps up to Drusiclla. Buffy whips out a stake and treatens Spike to let go of Chantarelle of she will make Dru turn into dust.
Spike lets the girl go and commands by Buffys threat to let the rest of the members of Sunset Club go. Buffy goes and makes for the door and locks up Spike and group inside. Ford remains conscience and demands his reward cause he kept his part of the bargain. Outside Buffy is greeted by Willow, Xander and Angel and tells them that tommorrow she will have to come and pick up the body.
The next day, Buffy returns to the club and finds Ford's Body. Later visiting his grave, Buffy explains the increasing complexity of life - where it isn't easy to know who you love, hate, or trust. Giles confronts her telling her it's all part of growing up. 'I'd like to stop if that's okay' Buffy asks. 'Does it ever get easy?' Buffy questions Giles, 'What?' Giles answers - 'Life'. 'What do you want me to say?' Giles asks Buffy directly. Knowing she knows what is to come if she asks for the truth she chooses to say 'Lie to Me'.
