It's Student Exchange time at Sunnydale High - everyone takes an exchange student home and exchange their life styles point of view and culture. A South American boy named Ampata will be staying for two weeks at Buffy's place and she is less thrilled with the plan. Even Xander is not thrilled at the idea having a boy stay with Buffy. While visiting the museum, they come up to an exhibit of a 500 year old mummy. Visiting the museum is a weird kid named Rodney Munson, who has the nack of stealing objects and putting his hands into something that is meant to be left alone, like the seal on the mummy which helps keep her imprisoned in her tomb. During closing time, Rodney falls for the pretty seal and tries to escape if from the clutches of the mummy - only to break it and waking her up from her slumber and reaching for poor Rodney with desiccated arms.Writers: Matt Kiene, Joe Reinkemeyer

The next day Willow reports Rodney's dissapearance. Buffy and her freinds decide to go and check the museum for any clues to maybe where he went of to and if he just stayed at the museum. They find a broken part of the ceramic seal, and guy with a knife tries to attack them. He runs away after looking at the mummy, however they find out after they looking at the mummy that the mummy must definetly be Rodney, cause they were never far advanced in dental hygene (the mummy had braces). They now know they've got a loose mummy to find but at the moment they have to go and pick up Buffy's exchange student at the Bus Stop.
At the Bus Stop, Ampata hears a female voice calling him, he goes and tries
to find out who is calling him only to be caught by the muumy and kissed.
Buffy arrives at the bus stop too late to know what has happened to the real
Ampata and calls for him only to find it's a girl. Xander is smitten by the
exotic beauty and we see Willow get a little jelouse. Back at the library,
we see Xander busily falling in love with Ampata while Buffy and Giles try
and decipher what is written in the ancient seal.
At Buffy's place before it's lights out Ampata tells Buffy about her 'people'
forced girls hundreds years ago to be sacrificed because they were the chosen
one to save their village from drout or enemies. The next day, they both go to
school. Ampata comes across Giles, Xander and Willow trying to decipher the seal
. She tries to brush them off by telling them it's expensive and that they
should keep it in a safe place. Xander - still smitten with Ampata goes with
her out from the library and to the baseball fields and showing her a little
bit of American culture in food with Twinkies just then the same man that
attacked them at the museum attacks Xander and Ampata again. They go rush to
the library and tell Giles what happened. This encourages Giles to work extra
time to translate the seal. Xander takes Ampata outside and asks her to the
danse at the Bronze as a date.
She goes to the bathroom to make up her mind only to be attacked once again
by the same man from the baseball fields and museum. He tries to make her see
sence that she is dead and she shouldn't try living, cause she ends up killing
other innocent victims in order for her to survive. She goes for the guy and
kisses him thus killing him by turning him into mummified corpse. Willow gets
out of the Library and tells Xander she doesn't wish to join him as 'freinds'
and that it's better for him to go with Ampata alone. Thrilled at this idea he
goes and rushes to Ampata where she agrees on the 'date'.
An anxious Xander picks up Ampata for the danse while a sad Eskimo Willow
watches Xander danse with Ampata.
Just then we notice and Band member named
'Oz' falls for our love shy Willow and is dazzled by her. Back at the library
Giles decides that he should go back at the museum and get the rest of the
pieces of the seal and maybe more successful in translation. Looks like Buffy's
plan to go to the exchange dance at the bronze will be canceled. They go rush
to Buffy's house and that is when Buffy finds odd why Ampata would have men
undergarments then female. They start suspecting that maybe it's just from a
weird culture shock thing - but they find something even scarrier in Ampata's
trunk. A mummified body - belonging to the real Ampata. Giles decides he'd
better go and get the rest of the seal and glue it together - maybe helping
in locking her forever so she doesn't feed
of any one else again, while Buffy will go to the Bronze and get Xander away
from Ampata.
While dancing with Ampata in his arms, Xander doesn't notice that her arms
starting to shrivel up. She leaves him for a brief moment and goes and tries
to get another victim to feed off. She finds a helpless teenage boy whom she
is ready to devour of life when they are interrupted by Xander. The boy runs
off and Xander comes and protects her by putting his arms around her. Just
then they kiss only when she starts sucking his life out of his body she
stops and throws him away because she loves him. She suddenly feels someone
putting the seal back into one piece so she rushes off to the museum. Buffy
and Willow look for Xander only to find him just waking up and asking what
happened to his date. Buffy explains to both of them who Ampata really is on
their way to the museum.
We see just before Giles places the last piece of the seal to make it whole he gets attacked by Ampat with a shriveled up arms. She breaks the seal again and throws him into the coffin just then Buffy attacks her. Feeling Buffys force of attack, Ampata puts on a strong defence and throws her into the coffin.
Just then Ampata grabs Willow and is ready to devour life out of her
when suddenly Xander stops her. He states that if she wants to take someones
life, it should be his. She tries to deny him, but he insists. Her body starts
crumbling but just as she almost gets her lips to make contant with his when
suddenly Buffy kicks Ampata away and watching as she turns into a mummy and
crumbling into bits.
After this whole scenerio, Xander contemplates his choice in dates from the She-Mantis to the Inca Mummy Girl (I think he is just hopeless).
