The sun shines on the hospital
as the baby cries for the first time
on the same floor Gwen's last rites are read
as another day begins.
John waits for the bus on the same bench
Ray tries to sleep on, as Aaron scopes them both
figuring which is the easier target
We rush to the nearest freeway in the afternoon,
just as some of us hide from guns
or crawl through the rivers or the sewers
And as I sleep, the cycle goes on
and I wonder where it'll take me
but I pull on the covers and push away the thought,
leaving it behind ... for another day
