Have you ever felt totally invisible? Like when you and your best buds come across gorgeous guys and they don’t even see you because they’re so busy fawning over your friends to notice you’re alive? Betcha think that if you could only snap your fingers and – whammo! – become as famous as the ultra-talented Backstreet Boys that you wouldn’t have to worry about not being noticed anymore, right?! Wrong.
Sure, the I’ll never break your heart hunks attract tons of love and attention from their faithful fans when they hit the streets to promote their self-titled CD. But sometimes the medi – and even some of their loyal admirers- select only one guy out of the group to go ga-ga over and shine the intire spotlight on, leaving the other guys in the dust.
Fortunately, these cute crooners know that it’s totally normal for someone to have the hots for one person and not the other, and that’s why they don’t take it personnaly if, say, 18 years old Nick Carter attracts all the attention at one point. « If Nick and not the rest of us gets the front page or anything, » Kevin Richardson, who turns 27 next month, confides to BB, « that’s just great publicity for the Backstreet Boys. That’s how we look at it. »
Of course, if you’ve ever seen these swoonworthy sweethearts struttin’ their stuff of stage-like they did on their sensational summer tour- you know that not one, but all five have got it going on! And Kev’s cousin, 23 years old Brian Littrell, isn’t embarressed to agree. « We are all very talented, » he boasts about the group.
It’s totally healthy-not to mention super-selfless-out-looks like those that keep the guys going. « It’s all for one ans one for all, » Howie Dorought, 25, says, revealing the As long as you love me gang’s mantra.
However, even with a majorly motivating motto like that, sometimes a nasty little ego can sneak up on one of the unsuspecting songsters and try to take over. And that’s when the Backstreet babes step up and give each other a reality kick in the rear, if need be! « We make sure that we, you know, try to keep each other in check so we don’t get a big head or anything like that, » Kevinreveals.
After all, if Brian, Aj, Nick, Howie or Kevin snotty and stuck up (like that would ever happen), it would be very difficult for the babely ballad-belters to reach their foal. « We just want really long-term careers in terms of business, » Howie D, as he likes to be called, explains. « We don’t want to be a flash in the pan. »
Even though the Orlando, Forida-based Boys could never have predicted the ups and downs that they would encounter, like only one member of the group becoming the main attraction, the smart-cookies crafted a surefire method for maintaining their moxie long ago. « In order to stay together a long time, you have to have communication, » Nick divulges of how the Backstreet Boys remain totally bonded. « You have to actually be able to talk to each other. And I think we established that a long time ago. You know, we make sure that we’d always talk things out. » Even if if means one of the guys has to bring up tough topics like feeling left out of the group because people don’t pay as much attention to him as they do the others.
Of course, there’s no way these best buds would ever leave one member of the group our. « Since the group started until now, it has always been five, » 20 years old Aj McLean maintains. « And if will always be five. » Brian totally backs him up. « There will never be an end to, you know, what we are as five, » B-Rok vows.
Whew! It’s good to know that these happenin’ hipsters continue to reamin totally tight and can roll with the punches, whatever they may be. « I think we all have a long, long career ahead of each and every one of us. » Brian assures BB Aj definitely agrees : « I don’t think any one of us is going anywhere fast »
