PREVIOUSLY: When an errant Metro Card ensures Peter Parker a free ride into Manhattan (and work), it seems Pete's luck has finally taken an upswing. But as the train heads under the river, mysterious rumblings derail the train and trap the passengers under the river.

In the darkness, Pete swaps into his Spider-Man gear and tries to organize an escape effort, when he discovers the rumblings were caused by old foe the Shocker! Shocker is working on behalf of a mob boss to kill a jury out to take down one of their top bosses.

The jury is also on this train, heading to take a look at the crime scene. Trapped under the river, Spidey discovers he's got more than lives on the line and a crime boss to help take down when one of the jurors reveals himself to be J. Jonah Jameson Sr.!

REVIEW: The story opens at the F.E.A.S.T. Centre where Aunt May is watching the breaking news of the subway crash on TV. She is worried about Peter, as he promised to be at the centre before noon, and she knows he took a train into Manhattan around the time of the crash. A reporter live on the scene indicates that only the subway car carrying jurors of the Giacomo trial was targeted; passengers in the other cars are unharmed. Aunt May feels a wave of relief at the sound of that, but still wonders where Peter might be; unbeknownst to her, Peter is far from being safe.

Hanging from the ceiling and inspecting his webbing, Spider-Man realizes that it won't hold on much longer; water is seeping through it at a very fast pace. He estimates that they have about 20 minutes left before it collapses. As he ponders what to do next, Spidey comments to one of the jurors that he cannot believe that he's J. Jonah Jameson's father. JJJ Sr. apologizes to Spidey for meeting like that and for his son's "actions". Having better things to concern himself with, namely getting everybody out of there safe and sound, Spidey tells JJJ Sr. to shine his light at the Shocker, who lies unconscious on the ground. Spidey approaches Shocker, whom he deduces has been hired by Giacomo (prompting an objection from the defence attorney), and proceeds to wake him up. Spidey believes Shocker must have had a plan to escape the tunnel unscathed, as he's not the kamikaze type. Grabbing hold of Shocker, Spidey slams him into the tunnel wall, forcing him to spill the beans about how to get out of there. Shocker reveals that there's a tunnel running parallel to the one they are trapped in. He points to a large pile of rubble and tells Spidey that they have to make their way out through there. Spidey gets hold of one of Shocker's vibro-blasters, fixes the device and proceeds to wear it on one of his wrists. He then blasts the rubble away but accidentally gets trapped under falling debris caused by the explosion; Spidey blacks out.

J. Jonah Jameson and his wife Marla meet with their attorney, as Jonah wants to file for divorce because Marla sold the Daily Bugle to Dexter Bennett without his consent. Their attorney's office has a view of Times Square. Jonah is staring out the window during the proceedings. Marla argues that she did what she had to do to keep Jonah alive. As he looks out the window, Jonah sees footage showing the jurors of the Giacomo trials and it seems he recognizes his father. He grabs his coat and takes off, leaving Marla and their attorney to wonder what is going on.

Spidey awakens in complete darkness; though he can hear very faint voices. Seconds later, a large chunk of concrete is lifted off him by the jurors and he's freed from the wreckage. Getting back to his feet, Spidey formulates the next part of the plan. It involves climbing along some kind of vertical shaft. Spidey tells JJJ Sr. to hop on his back – he needs someone to hold the light for him – and he starts crawling up the passage. When they reach the end of the shaft, they find themselves in a larger tunnel once again. Spidey grabs hold of metal beams and pipes lying around and constructs a rescue basket using his webbing to hold everything together. Using a horizontal conduit as a pulley-like system, he lowers the basket down the shaft to where the other passengers are waiting. They all climb aboard the makeshift rescue basket and Spidey starts pulling the whole thing back up the shaft. While doing so, he has a conversation with JJJ Sr. who reveals that Jonah was raised by his stepfather, who turns out to be none other than JJJ Sr.' brother (a military man). Spidey is struggling to pull the rescue basket up the passage, because of the collective weight of its occupants and the fact that the pipe used as a pulley is starting to bend. Spidey asks JJJ Sr. if Jonah even knew him at all. JJJ Sr. reveals that he wasn't really around much, as he's been living outside the country since Jonah was a child. It just so happens that JJJ Sr. just recently moved back to New York and ended up being picked to be on a jury. Spidey asks JJJ Sr. if Jonah knows he's back; he doesn't, according to JJJ Sr. The rescue basket having reached the top, Spidey yells at the passengers to hurry up and get out of the basket, before his arms let go. Shocker comes out first and heads toward where he remembered seeing a toolbox, hoping to find more flashlights there. Shocker locates the toolbox and finds a flashlight inside. He turns it on and turns to point it toward Spidey. When he does so, he and JJJ Sr. are shocked (no pun intended) to see that Spidey is covered by a couple dozen rats. Spidey begs the remaining passengers to hurry out of the basket. When the last passenger exits the rescue basket, Spidey uses Shocker’s vibro-blaster to rid himself of the rats covering him.

A long walk through the sewer tunnels ensues. Finally, in the darkness ahead, several lights are seen shining through – a rescue team is coming to meet them. Shocker comments to Spidey that "he was so close", just as Spidey's spider-sense kicks in, warning him of danger. As Spidey realizes that something is up with the vibro-blaster he's wearing, Shocker clicks on a button on his belt. Realizing the vibro-blaster is booby-trapped, Spidey takes it off and tosses it out of harm's way. But it blows up, trapping he and the jurors in the tunnel. Shocker, who was ahead of the blast, manages to escape.

It seems as though there are no more way out, but Spidey spots a sewer grate at street level, right above their heads – though several feet up from where they are. Spidey thus gets each passenger – one after the other – to use him as a ladder to access the smaller tunnel leading up to the sewer grate. As Spidey carries the second to last passenger up to the small tunnel, he realizes the last passenger – JJJ Sr. – has disappeared under the rising water. Reacting quickly, Spidey dives into the water. Thankfully, seconds later, he emerges with JJJ Sr. in his arms.

A few minutes later, Spidey emerges from the sewer tunnel, JJJ Sr. in his arms. A nearby reporter spots them and tells his cameraman to zoom in on Spidey. Broadcasting live, the reporter tries to get an interview with Spidey but the latter declines. Spidey spots J. Jonah Jameson in the crowd and calls out to him. An exasperated JJJ asks him what he wants. Spidey tells JJJ that he wants to introduce him to someone. But when he's about to reveal to whom, JJJ Sr. is nowhere to be found – Spidey can't believe it. Making matters worse, the police arrive on the scene and pull their guns out on him, instructing him to surrender, as he's wanted for questioning. Spidey leaps onto a passing ambulance, evading capture. As the ambulance drives away, Spidey realizes that JJJ Sr. will make peace with his son at his own pace. Left standing there, J. Jonah Jameson appears sad.

The end...for now.
