PREVIOUSLY: Peter Parker's P.O.V.: "Well, well, well. Well. Oh jeez...MJ's back. Mary. Jane. Watson. Is. Back. The woman I was going to marry is back. She was gone, but now she"s back.

Why is she back?

I don"t need this right now. I was just back from rescuing my best friend Harry from his dad"s evil clutches and…wow she looks beautiful. Just...GAH!...no, look, do you know what a weird couple of weeks this has been? Aunt May got married to J. Jonah Jameson Sr. (Yeah, the dad of that newspaper guy who always wants me arrested – he's mayor now. Of the City. Of New York.) and I meet a whole side of my family I've never even known and then she comes back...and looks...just...fantastic...NO!

Isn't it bad enough Doctor Octopus came octo-pying back to town? He took over the city's technology and dropped a freight train of subconscious angst on Manhattan. The Human Torch and I took him out, but it was a close call. Still, we made it just in time for Aunt May's wedding when SHE had to come back and just...I...I gotta get some air...

Why the heck did she decide to come back?"

REVIEW: The story opens with a press conference by J. Jonah Jameson, mayor of New York City. As usual, JJJ is making allegations that Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus were in cahoots (see last issue) and tried to destroy "his" city. One of the reporters in attendance points out that reports are saying that Spider-Man was a hero in the whole ordeal and proceeds to ask JJJ if he has any evidence to the contrary. Before JJJ can answer, another reporter also indicates that the Fantastic Four have given statements exonerating Spider-Man of any wrongdoing. Again, before JJJ can formulate an answer, a third reporter asks if JJJ has ever considered doing serious investigation into finding who is secretly under the mask of Spider-Man. JJJ answers that he does not need to know who he is to know that he's a menace.

The story shift to the Parker - Gonzales apartment, where Peter Parker awakens with a headache, the result of too much drinking at his Aunt May's wedding. Peter has a difficult time remembering what happened the night before. After focusing his thoughts, he finally recalls the events of the previous night. Mary Jane Watson, his ex, showed up at the wedding reception. Needless to say, nobody expected her to show up, let alone Peter. Peter remembers Aunt May coaxing him to go talk to her but Peter kept putting it off. He does remember eventually talking to MJ, though he has no idea what they said, or what they did. In the bed beside him, a woman suddenly awakens. Peter thinks it's Mary Jane but he gets the surprise of a lifetime when he discovers that it is none other than his roommate Michelle Gonzales!. Making matters worse is that Peter doesn't remember a thing. That doesn't bode well with Michelle who storms out of the bedroom, with but a sheet wrapped around her waist and chest. Peter realizes that he's made a huge mistake...

A short time later, Peter, as Spider-Man, is swinging across the City. He cannot believe how one woman (MJ) can make him do such crazy things. He remembers talking to her, briefly, the night before, and they agreed to go out on a date but he has no idea when, where and at what time. He wish he could get hold of her but he doesn’t have her new number, plus he can’t find his cell phone so she can’t call him and he also doesn’t know what her Aunt Anna’s (Watson) phone number is either. Pondering what to do next, his thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a nearby robbery in progress. Thankful for the distraction, he quickly disposes of the burglar, though a police officer and a corner newsstand owner are not very happy with his methods. Dejected, Spider-Man continues on his way.

A short time later, he arrives in Forest Hills, Queens, home of Aunt May Parker. As he prepares to enter the house, he gets an unexpected tingle of his spider-sense, warning him of potential danger. He opens the door to find the house filled with all the Reilly’s that were flown in by J. Jonah Jameson Sr. as a wedding gift to Aunt May in last issue. One of the elder Reilly approaches Peter and reveals that Aunt May is letting them stay there for as long as they want to. Peter feigns this being good news but he’s rather unimpressed with the whole thing. He leaves the house, figuring that he would worry about it later.

He makes his way to the Upper East Side of Manhattan to see if Harry Osborn has Mary Jane’s phone number. He shows up at his penthouse, only to be refused entrance by the doorman, who reveals that Harry no longer resides there. When Peter presses the doorman for more information about Harry’s whereabouts, the doorman acts snobbishly and tells Peter to figure it out on his own.

Peter heads over to the DB offices to find a phone to call Harry’s cell phone. He runs into Betty Brant and implores her to let him move in with her, seeing as his cohabiting with Michelle Gonzales is not doing so well. In normal times, she would have said yes immediately but she’s already letting Glory Grant stay with her – the result of tough economic times. Betty teases Peter, suggesting he should room with MJ. Peter doesn’t think she’s funny at all and goes on asking her if she remembers him saying anything about meeting MJ, such as when and where. Betty reveals that she doesn’t know anything about it. Just then, Dexter Bennett storms into the newsroom, yelling that something big is going on at the Empire State Building and that he wants them to head over there right away.

Minutes later, Peter, as Spider-Man arrives on the scene and immediately jumps into action, protecting people from the fiery blaze. When it seems like there is no way out of the building – the flames surrounding Spidey and the people he saved – our hero spots a water closet and proceeds to break several pipes, causing water to spill all over the place, effectively extinguishing the flames.

Several minutes later, everybody is safe and sound and outside the building. The firefighters thank Spidey for helping them out. While conversing with one of them, Peter/Spidey finally remembers where he’s agreed to meet Mary Jane – Grand Central Station.

A short time later, Peter arrives at Grand Central Station, early! As he walks around aimlessly, waiting for her to show up, he wonders what he’s going to say to her. Time passes by, but MJ is a no show. Peter is sort of disappointed, but also relieved, as he had not decided what he was going to say. He makes his way back home, assuming she is out, having a good time.

Across town, Mary Jane awakens after having slept for fifteen hours straight. She remembers most of what happened the night before, including Peter coming over. As she makes this latter revelation, she realizes she missed her meeting with Peter. She feels bad for not making it and hopes he made something out of his night. She turns the TV on and sees the news about Spider-Man saving all those people at the Empire State Building. Smiling, she tells herself that Peter/Spidey had a pretty busy night – thus revealing that she knows that Peter and Spider-Man are one and the same.

Peter returns home, to the apartment he shares with Michelle Gonzales and finds a plate of freshly baked cookies on the kitchen table, with a note addressed to him. He starts gobbling down the cookies one after another and realizes that he’s really thirsty for milk. Unfortunately for Peter, what he doesn’t realize is that Michelle has put a padlock on the fridge, effectively barring him from getting any milk.

The end...for now.

REVIEW: Spider-Man stops by the (hidden) Avengers Headquarters and runs into Jessica Jones and her baby daughter. They get talking and Jessica reveals that Spidey was the defining thing in her life. He has a difficult time accepting that, seeing as he didn't even know her in high school. Jessica explains how she realized what to do with her newfound powers when she saw him fighting the Sandman. She doesn't know how to explain it, but Spidey does: "With great power, there must also come great responsibility". She admits to liking that and asks if he just made that up. He reveals that he lives his life by it. She replies that she needed someone like him to show her that. She goes on explaining that she made her first costume because of him, and she didn't even know about his adage. She asks if she can use it now, if she can tell her daughter about it. He answers that she can use it and goes on saying that she can do pretty much anything if she puts her mind to it. Jessica summarizes her feeling by thanking him for helping her find the best part of herself, even if it was only for a little while. Blushing, Peter suggests that she should go back to doing it – the super hero thing. That way, her daughter will not only hear about the best part about herself, she’ll witness it. Jessica understands what he means and it is apparent she is pondering that notion.
